Taste of Chicago is not a music festival. It's a food festival. The music compliments the food, just as the food at Summerfest compliments the music. People go to Summerfest to see bands, and go to Taste of Chicago to eat. Get it?

If you wanted to compare MUSIC festivals, then compare Summerfest to Lollapalooza's line up; you know, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, Kayne West, Wilco, etc., etc.

You have a point, and I agree it is not the same...but..
People from IL like to say it is better than Summerfest so I like to shove it in their face....and..
Summerfest has much more music than any of those other festivals, and a lot more people...

I live in Schaumburg (half hour away from Chicago) and, between Taste of Chicago and Summerfest, Summerfest is a better music festival, as far as bands and lineup goes. However, I was throughly dissapointed when I went to Summerfest last year. I saw Rise Against on the US Cellular stage, and it was cramped, crowded, the sound was real iffy, and I couldn't see a thing. However, when I saw John Mayer at Taste of Chicago (not a fan, girlfriend is) it was just as crowded, but it was all lawn space and a wide area for everyone to stretch out, plus screens for those who couldn't see the stage. Musically, the only other upside of Taste of Chicago is that it is free. Why pay $60-90 a ticket this year to see Stevie Wonder at Summerfest when you can see him for free at Grant Park? But, Summerfest does have much better bands and obviously many more of them, and, depending on the selection, chances are I'll drive up for a day or two of Summerfest.

I don't understand why people from Wisconsin try to compare to Illinois so much. I like Wisconsin, I really do. Its probably Illinois' best state park...
