Ethanol is destroying the world economy

Food Costs Rising Fastest in 17 Years

USDA economist Ephraim Leibtag explained the jumps in a recent presentation to the Food Marketing Institute, starting with the factors everyone knows about: sharply higher commodity costs for wheat, corn, soybeans and milk, plus higher energy and transportation costs.
The other reasons are more complex. Rapid economic growth in China and India has increased demand for meat there, and exports of U.S. products, such as corn, have set records as the weak dollar has made them cheaper. That's lowered the supply of corn available for sale in the U.S., raising prices here. Ethanol production has also diverted corn from dinner tables and into fuel tanks.
Soybean prices have gone up as farmers switched more of their acreage to corn. Drought in Australia has even affected the price of bread, as it led to tighter global wheat supplies.

Yes, yes...lets keep making crappy gas so EVERYTHING cost more...I told you so.

yea, yea, yea - Ethanol is destroying the world economy!!

Just a few mins back, Oil price reached all time high $113 a barrel. It must be the Ethanol again causing Oil to reach all time high! ;-)

It is telling when a liberal has to make a smart ass comment about an issue. It means they have nothing to say about it. Energy prices are a problem, but as anyone smart enough to wrap their brain around the complex situation, jacking up food prices is a much bigger problem.
But that is just it...world problems are complicated, the usual liberal thought process is very simple and easy...

Your analysis is what's "simple". Ethanol is one factor, but you are ignoring the other factors, like the dollar, weakened by rampant Republican debt spending and weather conditions worsened by climate change.

Aside from your gleeful bashing of liberals, here is what a Bush Administration official had to say:

"Certainly, that
[ethanol] is a factor as we are seeing the rising food costs out there," U.S. Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer told CNBC. "It's not the factor, however. Energy is the big issue as we look at those food prices," he added."

oh - don't try explaining the real reasons and 'energy factor' to these so-called conservatives who would brand anyone who disagrees with them as 'liberals'!!

I think these guys hate everything 'green' for one simple reason - they see 'Al Gore' in it! Sometimes, for the sake of this planet, probably Al Gore should stop talking about environment. It will sure make these hardcore anti-Al Gore guys to see the realilty and start appreciating the green technology!

After all, it's not that hard to understand once you stop thinking on the party lines. McCain gets it.

Dems LIE when they say they are against corporate welfare. They are really against industrialization.

Look, the Dems on this board are totally for keeping the price of foodstuffs artificially high for agribusiness giants via subsidies.

But.. but ... it is for the Common Good!!^tm

Uh, no I'm not...Also, subsidies keep food prices artificially LOW, not high.

I just found out the price of beer is going to rise because farmers who normally grow hops are going to grow corn.

I can swallow high gas prices, I can deal with high tobacco prices, but if you start f’ing with my beer, then the war is on.

You’ve been forewarned!
