McCain says he would have responded differently to hurricane

This is why some conservatives hate McCain.
Even though other areas were hit worse, New Orleans is the area that was completely in chaos.
Instead of the people directly in charge taking responsibility...instead of looking at why the people that lived there didn't/couldn't get out, lets just blame the federal government.
People have NO responsibility for their actions...that is the liberals position, it is not supposed to be the Republican position.
No blame for the completely, 100% incompetent liberals running that city and state, no no, just blame GWB.
It is this thinking, and this public speech that gives more and more people the idea that they are not responsible for anything in their lives....it all rests on the federal government. Government should take care of all of societies problems.
While there is a clear role for government, the way too many people think nowadays causes more and more people to live in learned helplessness.
The country did much better when most people thought that THEY made the country great, not the politicians.

McCain demonstrates his Monday morning arm-chair quarterbacking ability. I’m impressed, more than impressed – hell I’m all warm and tingly on the inside!

Did you hear about the recent earthquake in Illinois? McCain (D-AZ) said it was on the Bush's fault.

Must have been the after-shocks.

This is exactly why I respect McCain. He is not a 'robot' like others who think liberals are behind every problem we face today!!

I agree with you on the 'responsibilty' part. I didn't like the looting and chaos either. Did the local leadership fail? Absolutely - there is no doubt!!

However, there is no doubt that Bush/ fed govt were slow in responding. When a disaster of that magnitude hits a major city area, president should act immediately. This is not about lib or conservatives. This is about leadership and judgement.

You are right...it doesn't need to be a right vs left thing, but in this case it was democrats who acted like liberals...instead of trying to take care of their responsibilities they screamed and yelled and cried on TV. Yes, the feds did need to help due to the magnitude of the situation, but it is interesting that Republicans took care of things the best they could and were glad to get help when it came, Dems did nothing, things got really bad and they simply blame Bush

I think pandering is a robotic political response.

Had McCain been president his landing a plane instead of flying over would have not done much to improve FEMA's response.

Maybe if he would have tried to launch a boat, ala Sean Penn, he could have sped things along.

We were talking about Katrina the other night. Does anyone remember the lady who was complaining about the water, sandwiches, and fruit she was provided? If FEMA can't provide steaks cooked to order and pina coladas with little umbrellas, some are going to claim they failed in their response.

On target..we will have a great country that I can be proud of again when the government is afraid of the people and not the people afraid of the government.
