Senate GOP blocks windfall taxes on Big Oil

Good.
I know the easy thing to do is blame oil companies.
I have tried to explain why oil companies are making more money, but some here don't seem to have enough upstairs to understand this easy concept.
But this is how liberalism works, you play off people's emotions and look for easy, big-government regulated answers.
It is not that easy.
This is not hard to figure out:
1. If you tax a business, what are they doing to do: Raise prices to get back that money lost. So when they tax the profits of a company, they are raising your taxes.
2. Oil companies have nothing to do with the price of a barrel of oil, that is controlled by GWB (jk)...that is controlled by supply and demand. Since environmentalist idiots have made sure we have no increased supply, the fact that demand has gone through the roof makes the price go up.
3. There is nothing we can do about the fact India and China are taking up more and more of the worlds oil.

Here is what we SHOULD do:
1. Drill for our own oil.
2. Look for ways to use less oil
3. Build more nuclear plants.

Now, liberals will argue that it will take years to drill and build plants...well, Clinton vetoed a bill to drill in Alaska 12 years ago...we would be getting that oil now.

Every business first finds the cost of their item, and then sets a margin. Taxes are built into the cost of the item. This is also true for Big Oil.

The end result-- the taxes get passed down to consumers. This is a regressive result that hurts working people. I'd like to see Congress get rid of *all* corporate taxes. Our corporate taxes are higher than those in Europe at this point.

Still, it is nice to see Republicans do something right for a change and shoot down a braindead socialist proposal. I'd like to see Republicans become more active instead of reactive with our agenda, but I'll take what I can get at this point.

What they blocked was removing their tax breaks..read again, your post is highly misleading. Then they voted against tax breaks for businesses that make and develop alternative energy.

What we should do is FORGET ABOUT OIL!! The sooner you get that through your skull the better off we will all be.
All our efforts and dollars, private and public, should be going toward alternative energy..many kinds. This is one place that the market WILL settle it out. Yes,nuclear may be one of those. Once we get there we can sell OUR oil to others instead of importing from other nations. Dollars coming in not going out...see? We are well on our way and the mix of that full effort and conservation could put us there far faster than anybody believes..Thats how much I believe in the power and innovation of US citizens. How about you?

Jason, go ahead and pass on the cost of taxes to the consumer. It's ok with me. That's how it's done but you suddenly believe capitolism is a bad thing? I'm a poor(moneywise) working person and I will make a personal decision on what I buy. You know freedom of choice.
If you want to bring corporations back save them money with health care that is provided by some way other than through these corporations. That is hurting them and costing them far more than their taxes.
I think what bugs me about your pronouncments Jason is that you live in theory, totally, and can't seem to get the big picture of real world and real world implications. Age will help you with that. Theory is great for a starting point but never lasts past the first engagement with the enemy.

you continue to be clueless. "drill for our own oil" will do nothing. do you think exxon is going to pump oil out of anwar and sell it to u.s. refiners for $20 a barrel?

are you that clueless?

"look for ways to use less oil". exactly, like maybe don't drive an suv.

"build more nuclear plants" yes, of course. but stop blaming the liberal eco-freaks. if exxon wanted to build nuclear plants, we'd have nuclear plants. if exxon didn't want nuclear plants we wouldn't have nuclear plants. ask yourself who benefits.

do we have nuclear plants?

I'm for capitalism and against Capitolism. Let's take power away from the 535 ignorant pinheads in Washington and give it back to the consumers.

Why are you for higher gas prices? It is enough that the prices are rising due to demand, but to pile it on with excessive taxation is mad primitivism. The aesthetic concerns of affluent liberals outweigh the economic needs of working people, it appears.

bwahahahahahahahah! THAT is outloud funny. 99% of the liberals I know personally are not affluent. I am near poverty levels myself trying to support myself and also my children from afar without the breaks or advantages of families. Not complaining just the facts. I,being in a job that puts me in touch with a lot of people, know quite a few. I know a lot more weathy conservatives. That doesn't make them bad in it's self.
Many working people know that there is more than one factor to to decisions. I think there is nothing we can do to stop rising oil prices. We can't drill enough to supply our needs. Even Newt Gingrich says that. It is not in our control. The solution is to FORGET ABOUT OIL. Move on pal.
