"More of the Same" McCain puts his country first, Obama puts himself first

MCCAIN SUSPENDS CAMPAIGN TO FOCUS ON ECONOMY; WANTS DEBATE DELAY

OBAMA: THE DEBATE IS ON... DEVELOPING...

really? that's your spin now?

the deal is nearly done and so far about 98% of what both obama and mccain are calling for is in there.

so the only thing for mccain to do is to try and talk the republican caucus to support the action instead of trying to politicize it by making the democrats pass it without them so if it goes sour, the democrats get the blame.

it's naked politics and naked fear as his polling numbers tank.

Tank? McCain's poll numbers have dropped because many uninformed people incorrectly blame republicans for the market crisis. Most will forget this by 11/04.

Actually, Obama called McCain this morning and asked for behind-the-scenes conversation to issue a joint statement of principles on the bailout. McCain went public because agreeing to anything bipartisan would be seen as a sign of weakness for his new, hyper-partisan campaign.

That, and Sarah Palin spoiled it all for John "the fundamentals of our economy are strong" McCainby telling CBS that if we didn't solve the problem by Monday, we'd be in a capital-D depression.

I agree Terry...anyone who has a clue can not blame Republicans for this...

Honestly McCain is in a tight spot. When I have no questions about his 'country first' values, I also realize the political calculations behind this decision. It would be a disaster for McCain to debate Obama in the middle of an economic crisis. Because, remember, no matter how you cut it, it was Republican President who was in White House since 2000. It was Republican senate for 6 years out of 8 years. People understand it.

exactly, it all went down on Bush's watch, and the republicans, in fact, did nothing to prevent any of this

in fact, their incessant pleas for irresponsible deregulation set all of us up for this situation

republicans spend like drunken sailors, and none of them has any idea of what being a conservative is about, which is why the ideology itself is doomed

Imagine a senator actually paying attention to the job he is being paid for even when on the campaign trail. Whether it hurts his campaign or not, he is paying attention to his current position as an elected official.
He understands the gravity of the situation and is making sure his constituency is represented.
May not be the best campaign trail decision, but it's RIGHT decision for the people.

It's a hoot watching the McCain campaign go up in flames, and listening to the cheering section who think he actually has a shot at winning this. If he can't debate Obama, how can he take on Chavez or Putin?

Ron, you're not writing about me are you? If you are you mistaken. I am no more a republican than I am a democrat. I am an educated, and more importantly an informed free thinker. My politics lean to the right because the planet I live on is ruled by conservative laws. I also believe that as citizens of the USA we should do things for our country, not the other way around.

This financial crisis has several underlying causes. Some caused by democrats and some caused by republicans. To blame one side or the other is counterproductive and I stand by what I wrote here. Republicans are going to get blamed for this at the polls and it will be because of uninformed or misinformed voters. Your rabid left wing rant gives me the opinion you have an issue with your consistency of thought.
