Thoughts on debate?

I was working Friday night and forgot to DVR it.
I went to different sites and realize I can't get a fair and balanced take on the dabetes.
It goes from McCain kicked Obama's ass to Obama kicked McCain's ass.
I'm sure neither is true, but it did seem like McCain had a few more direct hits on Obama while BHO simply had slicker comebacks...

The reason you have trouble getting a "fair and balanced" view is because there is no such thing. People have different view points and different priorities. People what various approaches and demeanor in the person that represent them. Knowing your viewpoint I would guess you would feel that McCain won. The polls say Obama won. Again, in a question like this the words..it depends...is key.

You can watch the debate at the C-SPAN website

It was about even--but nobody cares about foreign policy when they're in the voting booth.

I rarely watch debates, except for entertainment value.

Unless one side makes a major (a damn major) gaffe, or slips up and tells us what they really believe (Obama), a debate is going to change nobody’s mind.

The pundits claim, debates are for the undecided. I say, it’s a damn sad indictment of the voters of this country, that there’s enough “undecided” left to sway this election.

i watched and didn't see any major mistakes by either. i think obama did fine and held his own on mccain's "home turf", that is foreign policy. in that respect is was a win for obama.

mccain was condescending to obama, never looked at him at all and kept saying "you don't understand." but obama demonstrated that he did in fact understand but disagreed with mccain's positions.

the general reaction i'm reading from all over is that obama was calm and presidential and mccain was grumpy and emotional.

cbs, cnn, and others had snap polls of undecideds and the majorities in all polls said obama won. i watched a few minutes of hannity & colmes. they had a text in poll which gave mccain the win 82% to 16%. what a surprise!

I watched the debate last night.

McCain was clearly a winner in my opinion. He was very strong and assertive. Obama, on the other hand, tried to play Mr.Nice person. Not sure if it was part of the strategy to convince the independents.

One flip side on McCain's performance - he looked grumpy. Not sure why. If he had acted little more friendly, he would have scored more points.

Some powerful observations, IMHO....

When the opinions on a debate are not all on one side I believe it means the debate was about even. I watched it and thought both candidates did OK. But my takeaway was McCain did better on foreign policy, Obama was more composed and looks better because he's 30 or so years younger. Obama had to say "I agree with Senator McCain, or John".

Oops, my last sentence should have read.

Obama had to say "I agree with Senator McCain, or John" often.

They're all twits. I vote for the twitlessness.

Don't think you can score a win for either. Nothing substantial came out in terms of memorable comments or gaffes. Obama did object vocally to McCain statements as McCain was still making them and I think from the perspective of grading debaters, that can't be a good thing. I don't believe Obama did a lot to convince anyone of his foreign policy expertise (I use that term for laughs), but again, neither stood out to me as a clear winner.

The winner/loser will be much more obvious for viewers of Thursday's VP debate. If Kathleen Parker has her way, Palin will have stepped aside for personal reasons before she takes the stage. I would imagine there will be some serious guffaws associated with Palin's "performance."
