Ashville N.C. School teacher browbeats student over being a McCain supporter

This really isn't news..atleast for someone who works in education.
I just thought some of you wanted to get a taste of the real world..

Here's some more real-world hate for you:

"On Thursday, the Pearl Schools superintendent said that a school bus driver and a coach were disciplined for allegedly telling students not to say President-elect Barack Obama’s name."

http://www.wapt.com/news/17925627/detail.html

But, you'll just claim that the students are making this up.

i supported obama. the teacher starts out OK, but then i think she steps over the line.

Yes, at that age, I think teachers should be instructing students about the political process, but they are too young to make value judgements about the relative merits of the candidates. The sense of confusion was palpable in that room, because the student's views are still being shaped by their parents, so when the teacher started trying to get deeper to find out the "whys", the kids didn't really have an answer.

A good teacher doesn't try to shape the opinions or morals of their students. They help them develop the critical thinking needed to form their OWN.

Now what if that little girl decides to support Obama? What would be her justification? "because my teacher told me to". That isn't helping her at all.

she's not in asheville anymore, hasn't been in a while

she was evidently teaching in a school in cumberland county

besides appearing utterly unqualified to teach at all, i think this is a case where the woman actually knows full well that what she's doing, but she's letting her personal viewpoint totally override common sense, and basic compassion for how she deals with the young girl

frankly, the way she handled the responses from the other kids was nothing to write home about, either

this story has taken on a life of its own across the right-wing blogosphere, there are most likely no big-city school boards or union delegates to deal with, and her employment stability is questionable, to say the least

i don't think she'll last through Christmas, Thank God

glad to see most of you agree this is crap...
instead of saying "everybody does it"
It happens a lot in public school...from little kids making Obama signs in homeroom to everyone being forced to watch Michael Moore movies without any counterpoint...
A lot of the kids asked who I was voting for and I refused to talk to them about it...
