Well, Obama said a lot of silly liberal things, and it looks like he will do very few of them.
He is not going to pull out of Iraq quickly because losing a war you are winning is silly
His is not going to tax the crap out of the rich and business because he doesn't want to cause a depression
He is not going to give terrorist civilian trials because he doesn't want those people blowing up stuff in our country and have it be his fault.
All this silly crap sounded good for the people he wanted to hear it, but I don't think he is stupid enough to actually do any of it.
It just fits what I think about liberalism...It SOUNDS better, but never actually works

Obama knows he can't implement all his silly liberal ideas

well i think it's safe to say that the bush administration left the us and world economies is such a bad condition that obama wouldn't be able to do all these "silly liberal things" that over 52% of the country apparently wanted him to do.
obama will get the us out of iraq as quickly as possible unless iraq throws us out first. winning? what winning? who is being defeated here? nobody ever adequately defined victory in iraq other than what we wouldn't have if we ever left iraq before we had it. huh? kind of circular logic.
there will be no terrorists released who will blow up stuff in the us. fair trial does not mean letting people go.
Why don't you let your boy Barry take the oath before announcing that "it sounds better, but never actually works." Aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself? I mean, it's plain to see you're cheering for his defeat but doesn't that play into the hands of our enemies?
I've read no cheering for Obama's defeat on this blog. You make a good point Game. Obama's been briefed and he now realizes what most of us have known all along.
"well i think it's safe to say that the bush administration left the us and world economies is such a bad condition..."
How can one man screw up the whole world? I guess anything can happen in a fantasy world.
it doesn't take just one man, but a "team" of incompetents and ideologues, and those two words describe the bush administration exactly.
George W. Bush has a proven track record of leaving his businesses in far worse condition than they were in when he inherited them. Did we really expect anything different with him running the US of A? He played us all for suckahs.
lets see, fannie and freddie started all this, and it was Dems who pushed for all the bad loans and republicans who raised some concerns. You can say Bush should have fought against all these loans, but then people like Obama and other liberals would have called him racist...
So what did Bush actually do to cause our current problems...
The one thing you could even try to say is he didn't regulate enough, but Repubicans tried to, it was people like Barny Frank who fought it.
"it was Dems who pushed for all the bad loans"
you keep saying this as if saying it would make it true. it isn't.
i live in the worst-hit area of the country, the california central valley. i don't live in the barrio and i don't live in the ghetto. i live in a middle to upper middle class neighborhood with foreclosure signs on every 7th or 8th house. two miles down the road is a toney neighborhood where 90% of the mortgages are "upside down". these are not cra loans. these are people who wrongly believed that the value of their homes would never decline, that the real estate bubble would never burst. and the lenders believed it too, so many didn't use proper care in underwriting the property. and they were able to lay off the risk by selling them on the market.
there is blame to go around, all over, everyone in the political and financial spheres. but it wasn't because banks were forced to make bad loans. they weren't and to continue to say so is a lie. i said it before and i'll say it again. warren buffet is the biggest investor in what is now probably the strongest bank in the country. this bank has met all cra goals and has not jeopardized its financial strength and position in doing so. cra was only meant to make sure that minorities had equal opportunity to get loans, not sweetheart deals.
don't keep repeating lies. it doesn't help the problem; it only makes you look more foolish.
here's someone who predicted it all 1-2 years ago. and everybody laughed at him. check it out.
And I don't like what Shiff is prediction right now. Major inflation coming.
well, terry, when we run out of people to lend us money to pay for all of these bailouts, we'll have to print some. that will cause inflation. get ready for it.
Thanks for clearing things up, anony.
I think must have understated my comment.
Claiming that Fannie and Freddie caused the subprime mortgage mess is a lie, and a foolish one that has been debunked many times. It is exactly this type of ideologically-based (rather than reality based) wishful thinking that Obama is referring to when he talks about change.
And claiming that the SOFA is some sort of vindication for Bush, when it is exactly the same type of strict timetable that Republicans have been railing aginst for years, is laughable. You can't just claim that black is white and have people not laugh at you.
And nobody wants to give the Gitmo detainees civilian trials, not even their lawyers. What we want, and hopefully what Obama will provide, is a 180 degree switch from the Bush administration and a return to the rule of law and the Constitution that the President is sworn to uphold.
