I would just like to share what I heard in a two minute period today at my workplace.
A vice principal was keeping kids out of the cafateria who should be in class. When they would not leave he informed them he would have to call the police. The immediate answer was, "F____ the police"
then security was called and then the kids said, "They better not m'in f'in touch me, I"ll f'in kill them"
Then the same VP went into the cafeteria, a girl who was not supposed to be there saw him, he walked toward her and said, "Keep your m'in f'in hands off be bit$# a__"
I was told two days ago that I was going to be put 6 feet under the ground because a kid didn't want to give up the chips he was eating in the gym...where you shouldn't be eating anything. Oh, and I heard that type of comment more than once a day.
Where are we headed with these kids?
They have no regard for any adult, for any authority, for common decency, for a civil society, for anything.
There are a larger and larger percentage of kids who have this mentality in the inner city. What happens when it gets over 50%? 75%?
That number is not going down.
Many in MPS are still playing the game. Well, sorry, but the game is over.

they have the upper hand
it will only worsen, now
What Do liberal faculty members think about this? Do they think this is a problem or just kids will be kids.
This is long past kids will be kids..and really..what can be done when the people in charge have no punishments available to really do something about it...besides..there are too many suspensions in MPS anyway...imagine that...what a shame..hang tough..GAME...
You can't be a "true believer" liberal in this environment...you SEE with your own eyes who far from normal the behavior is and you are forced to deal with it...it is the liberal who never really deals with this directly that can preach about racism and lack of money and bla bla bla...basically never blaming or punishing the person did something wrong...
These kids have no idea what a useless life they are headed for if they think they can act like this after they(hopefully)graduate. ..Now, mind you I fully agree that this is despicible. The fact is that a while out in the 'real' world will likely change their attitude or end their survival.
Game, do you have any ideas on what might make this a better situation or do you just want to complain? Not trying to be snarky but I get frustrated reading here when there is no discussion of solutions. You are in the middle of it so you should have some ideas?
If teachers didn't look like an easy mark would these punks be so brazen? I'm just asking. Like if you started benching 250 and were a little more menacing looking would they still pop off? I'm no teacher but if I'm in charge of teens who don't follow the rules and want to get in my face over it...well, good thing I chose a different profession because that shit don't fly with me. I guess your only option is writing them up and moving them into the disciplinary process, assuming there's some teeth to that. How is this a liberal or conservative issue? This is a lack of parenting issue, plain and simple. You can speculate about past programs or philosophies that got you to this point, but fact is you are there and have to deal with it regardless of what brought it on.
come on Ron...I have talked about bording schools and schools run by the military...all the social programs presented so far have not worked at all, infact they add to the problem...
And I do complain, but you forget I give solutions...just click on the "inner city behavior" or MPS links and read on...
But I am just about at the point where I believe that it is over...the people in charge care ONLY about the bad kids..leaving the few good kids to learn nothing...and making them not ready for the real world as well
Only one answer - "Parenting"! This is nothing to do with 'liberal' Vs 'Conservative'. Unfortunately, the 'innecr city' culture makes the situation worse.
Game, if you have solutions you have to keep repeating them, as often as you point out a problem. Karl Rove should have taught you about repetition...and on this he was right....correct. That is what I am interested in discussing. But that is just me. I don't go much for all the drama queens..kings.
American, you are right. It's not the only answer but the big best one is parenting.
As far as the inner city culture. It has its roots somewhere. It might be a good idea to figure out what those are. That is unless you figure people are naturally that way, or you think certain races are naturally that way....in which case all I can say is I feel for your sad soul.
The best program government,or society if you wish, can create is a good paying, stable job. So where are they?
Ron,
I never tried to link 'inner city' culture to any specific race. I was referring to certain elements/realities you see in any inner city that makes 'good parenting' very challenging.
But, on the other hand, 'good parenting' is the one that creates a good culture in the neighborhood!! So, it's like Chicken or egg theory! You see.
solutions?
okay, but i bet you won't like them
reinstate the concept of reform schools, asylums for the criminally insane, orphanages
force all parents/guardians to sign a release upon registration, that they agree to allow their children to submit to physical discipline, at the discretion of teachers, aides, administrators, coaches, security personnel, etc.
admit to the fact that the first generation of crack babies has now passed through the system, and educating them has been a miserable failure, because neither staff nor the educational power structure has neither the resources nor the capability to contend with their disruptive behavior
end the practice of "mainstreaming" special-needs children, the emotionally disturbed. and other disruptors into the general student population
lastly, consider ways with which payments of such programs as afdc, wic, could be ended to failed parents, as they have relinquished their parental rights to the state, and therefore are no longer qualified for benefits aimed at keeping families together
apart from the obvious expense of building and staffing massive facilities to house these children and provide for their basic needs,
this will save money in the long run and help to safeguard society against the miscreants
"The best program government,or society if you wish, can create is a good paying, stable job. So where are they?"
They are gone because there is no one to do the work. A vast majority of these kids have no work ethic, they read at a 4th grade reading level, they don't want to work hard, they don't want to make their lives better...so the job thing is crap.
hash, the bording school thing would work. Get the kids out of these pathetic, anti-anything good communities and maybe they will not learn how to be a drag on decent society.
"hash, the bording school thing would work...."
maybe, but it would cause a huge financial drain on taxpayers, whereas reformatories would serve the same purpose more cheaply, and offer additional opportunities to mete out discipline, without outside interference
my main concern is to remove the animalistic elements from the conventional school environment, for they now outnumber the kids that are willing to learn, and destroying the instruction process
i know of entire SCHOOLS where this is the case, not just individual classes, so breaking them up from within is no longer possible
