Milwaukee County list for stimulus money includes buses, parks

I don't mind this plan.
If Obama is going to turn on the printing presses and spend us into oblivion, why not get some THINGS for it.
What do I mean?
If the money is used to upgrade infrastructure, to improve existing project, update buildings or equipment, fix things...I have no problem with that.

It is when people like Doyle want to take all that money and build something completely new (light rail) that will require the tax payers to fun forever, that actually hurts us in the long run.

If we can get the money and use it this way, go ahead...

Yep, money for buses and parks sounds real fine, that is until you look at the reality of the situation.

First you have the bid process for the various projects. Then you have to look at the contractors and weather or not union contractors were given preference. The chances that the “best” bid is taken are slim to none. Then you have to look at how the busses will actually be run.

My purely subjective estimate? If anything positive comes from the boondoogle it will be at about 3 times the cost of what a real customer would have paid to a real contractor.

But what the hey, the US gov has money to burn, who gives a damn about realities as long as we can create a few good video/sound-bite news reports showing “Americans” at work.

the one thing i didn't see covered in the article, was the state of the buses, equipment, etc., that the new equipment would replace, or how the existing facilities are dangerous, or fail to meet the needs of the city's citizens, and how

the business of local officials is to obtain the highest amount of funding available for their municipality

in your estimation, have rolling stock, building integrity, parkland facility minimums, etc., gotten to the point where they will not survive an extended period of financial lack, deflation, budgetary constraints, etc., without capital improvement

you know your city, are these essential funds better diverted to other endeavors?

remember, the primary motivation folks like me are told this is for, is to remedy dangerous situations like the minneapolis bridge collapse, brought on by neglect, caused by budgets strained by the tax cuts

what say you?

I think the parks are in really bad shape. some do not think this is a priority, but I think this is one of the few things that just about everyone can use.
Just about everything else our taxes go for are not used by the people who pay taxes anymore.
Buses, I couldn't tell you the kind of shape they are in..but I know they want to give more security to the drivers so they stop getting beat up by young black males.

The buses are in fine shape. There have been about half a dozen security issues within the past 2 years that people are crazed about.
