So in an $800+ billion bill, they object to, what, $6 billion? Less than 1%?

Man, they're just not trying anymore, are they?

Yea, what the hell is 6 billion when your plan is to bankrupt a once prosperous nation under false pretenses.

well, i have to agree, most of these items seem totally unrelated to sustainable job creation, or any sort of relevant economic "stimulus", at least for the purposes of the current problem

i don't know about you guys, but i'm pretty pissed off that, the minute a specific spending program is announced, everybody comes out of the woodwork, thinking THEIR big cause is more important than anything else

but, what's wrong with the opposition party challenging the purposes and amounts of these items?

aren't these the very same "checks and balances" we howled for, when bush had the republicans rubber-stamping his every whim?

it's not just barky, here, it's the entire democratic party that should be ashamed of themselves, because they all hopped onto barky's orwellian "change" bandwagon, only to turn around and prove that they just wanted the same gravy train for themselves?

they are using the same fear of the future the republicans used after 9/11, to exploit the fear americans have over our economic instability, just to push their own agenda forward!

it's counterfeit, it bites, and i don't see how anyone who spoke out against the war, against pnac, against the wiretapping, etc., can turn around and support this so-called stimulus package with a straight face...

that is the weakest answer I have even seen Jay.
Obama is showing he really doesn't know a damn thing about anything...I was afraid this would happen, and we all are going to suffer for it

what makes you think he doesn't know exactly what he's doing, though?

he's doing exactly what we would have expected to him to do...the question is, why isn't there more of a hue and cry from ALL quarters?

it's not like they're reaching into their own pockets to fund this, or even OUR pockets...they will have to borrow it, most probably from china

does it make sense for anyone to be for this?

most of these items seem totally unrelated to sustainable job creation

$448 million for constructing the Department of Homeland Security headquarters. the building is erected without humans?

$500 million for flood reduction projects on the Mississippi River. protecting against floods is a waste? and this will be done without humans?

$850 million for Amtrak. trains and tracks build themselves?

Very little of what you have listed seems wasteful.

you're missing it, jim

even the infrastructure projects will take at minimum one year to get going, which runs counter to the stated objective of meeting immediate economic needs

by their very nature, they are not permanent jobs, which is why the precedent this would set would be counterproductive...every project forevermore would be designated an "economic stimulus", with all of the planning, safeguards, bidding, being circumvented...not good practice

and, as for amtrak, i am absolutely of the mind that amtrak should be privatized, it is poorly run and administered, at ridiculous expense, and the rail links it does serve can be far more cheaply and efficiently be served by the private sector

and we don't need a department of homeland security headquarters, any more than we need a department of homeland security...

utter waste of money, we don't have that luxury anymore, in fact, we haven't had it for a long time

The $6 billion wasted on pet projects is $10 billion less than Merrill Lynch handed out as executive bonuses. I'm sure that pisses you off, too, game, but you just lack time to blog about it. This ankle biting is contagious.

This ankle biting is contagious.

No it's not anon. It's silly, stupid and hypocritical and these people who are doing it are so insulated in there own world that they can't see the rest of the world shaking their heads in disgust. That's ok though because we have another election in 10..maybe, just maybe they will get it then. Good luck game my friend.

Jim said...

It doesn't matter whether the jobs are permanent. They will employ people and put money in their pocket. They will pay taxes and spend money. The things they spend money on will mean more work for others who will spend money and pay taxes. And so on and so on. More spending more jobs for those whose jobs are "temporary." That's why it's called "stimulus".

Jim, they are just getting down the propaganda. Don't confuse them. For Gods sake don't tell them that the REAL crooks aren't the people or their representatives but the people that make and control the money. Heresy!!!!
