Doctor in trouble for calling patient obese

So now doctors can't tell people they have a life-threatening disease that will kill them...
Just another example of the PC world gone bad...

I bet this woman felt bad because she was told of her state. Well, if this world wasn't so PC, maybe more people would be telling her she is overweight, maybe she would become motivated to save her own life.
Instead, she will continue to deny the fact, so she doesn't feel bad (until she dies)

This is like a doctor not being able to say:
I'm sorry, you have cancer
...you have HIV
...you have herpes
...you have genital warts (sorry, I'm a health teacher)

I bet if a person was told they had these illnesses, they would feel bad too...

Here is a common sense comment by the doctor:
"I told a fat woman she was obese,"Bennett says. "I tried to get her attention. I told her, 'You need to get on a program, join a group of like-minded people and peel off the weight that is going to kill you.'"

Can't anyone say anything anymore? People need to be told their weaknesses as well as their strengths. We can't have everyone grow up in fantasy land. If someone is fat, they need to know it so they can do something about it. If a kid can not read in school, we can't just tell him he can read so he doesn't feel bad. (some liberal teachers would say "YES YOU CAN")

Lets stop this silly game. People need to grow a little thicker skin, step out of fantasy land and get back into the world of reality.

Roseindigo, nice to see you here finally...hope to see you often..

The point is that the PC world tries to stop anyone from actually saying what they think, or what reality is...that is when it goes to far...

Things were better off when someone was allowed to feel bad about being bad at something, or being fat, or being an asshole...people need to know these things...

Roseindigo, I love your comments about passive aggressiveness. Passive aggressive behavior appears to be a serious mental/emotional malady permeating today's society. People are sued, or fired very frequently in all professions for hurting someone's feelings. It especially happens a lot in the health care professions. BTW, I read the article about the obese woman, but could not find a photo of her anywhere. Could it be that she is refusing to have her photo published, fearing that when others see her obvious morbid obesity, that this will harm her chances of monetary gain from a lawsuit over her "hurt feelings?" If, perchance, I just missed the photo, could someone please tell me where to find it? Thanks.

Hi game, I just read your latest post. Nicely put. Yep. I agree. It got me to thinking that maybe the reason people are making more and more ridiculous claims lately, (on anything, from the war wasn't/isn't necessary, to Bush is Satan, and now up to denial about obesity) is because they've been sheltered for so long from reality, for the sake of PCness, and avoidance of "hurt feelings", that they have become, say schizophrenic, and no longer have the ability to see reality? LOL! Probably so.

I also think this is where school shootings come from...

Little Jonny is told that everything he does is wonderful and that he shouldn't feel bad for anything he does...

Then he finds out he has strengths AND weaknesses...he can't handle anyone making fun of him or telling him the truth...so he goes and blows everyone away..

look into the lives of any schools shooters, this is their life.

You should read an excellent book called "The Epidemic" by Dr. Robert Shaw from Bezerkely California. The book delves deeply into the issues of our "make everyone feel good" society. We don't teach our children empathy anymore. We make them believe that they are the only thing that matters, win or lose, and that the world should revolve around their concerns...even at the expense of others.

That might be a problem joe, but I think not being able to tell anyone the truth because it might hurt their feelings is BS.
