Doyle vetoes voter ID bill - again

Madison - For the third time, Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle today vetoed a bill that would have required voters to show a photo ID, saying it would have disenfranchised up to 177,000 elderly and poor who do not have driver's licenses or state-issued proof of identity."Senate Bill 42 unfairly restricts the right to vote at the expense of far too many of Wisconsin's law-abiding, elderly citizens," Doyle said. "Under this proposal, nearly one-quarter of Wisconsin's elderly population could be disenfranchised. I cannot allow that to happen."The veto was expected, since a Doyle aide said Tuesday that it would be forthcoming. But Rep. Jeff Stone (R-Greendale) said it showed why he and other Republicans will try and amend the Wisconsin Constitution to add a requirement that voters must show a photo ID.Stone said that changing the constitution would take until 2007, at the earliest, and be like "using a sledgehammer," compared to the relatively simple process of writing a new law with a photo ID requirement to vote. But Doyle's repeated vetoes left him no other choice, Stone said. He will push for a vote on constitutional amendment this fall.A proposed amendment must pass two sessions of the Legislature, so the second vote could not come until 2007. After that, the measure would go to voters in a statewide referendum.

Democrats always say that making someone prove who they are to vote will disenfranchise voters...

You have to show an ID to:
rent a video from Blockbuster
buy alcohol
basically be a part of society

Doyle says that there are seniors who don't have ID's so they couldn't vote. Well, the bill that he vetoed allowed seniors to get FREE ID's...takes care of that problem...

The true issue here is that there is only one reason that someone would want to keep it very easy to comit voter fraud...

They benefit from it...

or is it that dems believe that the people that vote for them are so poor, are such losers that they do not even have a form of identification...

So either one of two things is happening:
1. Minorities and old people are not responsible, intelligent or able to have one of the easiest and most basic items any person who functions in society has (says dems, NOT ME)
or
2. Democrats know that they benefit from voter fraud

Listening to Jeff Wagner on Saturday morning, he seemed to be saying the same thing. I'm not quite willing to go that far, but I agree with Random10 that the Repubs do something different. Either change the name (his idea) or put it in a comprehensive vote reform measure.

I don't think changing the name will help...
Doyle will veto anything that makes it harder to cheat during an election...
