Wow, it's amazing how the completely taxed, overutilized, and under-funded National Guard was able to expend 40,000 troops in the largest military mobilization for a natural disaster ever. Guess that whole Iraqi war making us ineffective thing doesn't quite make sense.
In the mean time none of us should go to work or worry about any other important matters that need handling until such time as the people in New Orleans deem appropriate. Since the deadline for the passage of our laws has not been delayed or changed we shouldn't expect that they be properly debated, until such point that the people in New Orleans allow. Instead we should ask for the aid of the federal government, expect it to do its job, yet be upset when other people do theirs.
Why does congress need to meet in the face of this natural disaster? The response is already in place through several national agencies meant to deal with kind of thing. We have weathered hurricanes of this magnitude in the past. So why again does congress need to quickly run to the capitol when a response system is already in place?
We should of course expect that when a city is 80% underwater that all of the relief efforts contained within that city should be ready to go the day after the disaster. No one seems to realize that the relief efforts for the hurricane were in the city being affected! Perhaps if it weren't under water that response could have been quicker. People don't have food and water because the grocery store is under water!
Then when all logic fails us we should resort to baseless race baiting as an effective means to meet our ends. We can put Rudy Guliani right next to the mayor of New Orleans and see the quality of fine Americans in the face of disaster. One professionally handles the situation and deploys the efforts of his city with deft care, the other goes into a cursing tirade and blames racism and George W. Bush. What a fine example of sensibility.

I mostly agree, average joe. Except for the part that we have weathered hurricanes of this magnitude in the past. This is the greatest amount of disaster from any previous hurricane. And thanks to the media wanting to ONLY portray some imaginary racial prejudice from our President, GWB, much of the country seems to be oblivious to the hard working people of the MS Coast that were affected. After all, Biloxi MS took the DIRECT eye of the hurricane. It is truly a sad situation on the MS Coast. What's worse, is that many on the MS Coast had to sit by, no food, no water, for LONGER than New Orleans had to go without food and water, WATCHING the Red Cross trucks roll by with plenty of food and water for New Orleans, none for MS....because there weren't enough blacks there in MS to make it worthwhile for the delivery of food and water to MS. (A little sarcasm.) Even on the blogs, hardly anyone talks about MS, the direct hit of the hurricane...........hmmm victims of the national media, I see. I visit the local MS blogs, there is plenty of suffering there....rarely the media will give it a blurb. I encourage everyone to make sure when they donate to the Red Cross, or other hurricane charities, that they specify the money is to go to MS Coast victims, otherwise the Red Cross, as they have done in the past with other causes, will spend almost everything on only the mainstream media's favorite subjects. Yes, the Red Cross has some Democrat affiliations. Insist on getting a written record from the charity you donate to, specifying that the money will go to MS. Better yet, I urge everyone to donate instead to John Grisham's (the best selling author), charity at www.RebuildTheCoastFund.org. ALL of the money donated to this charity goes straight to the hard working, honorable MS Coast victims. Thank You.
