More Abu Ghraib Photos Ordered Released

This man should be brought up on murder charges for every American who is killed because of his decision.

Why do we need to see more Abu Ghraib photo's? Every person responsible has been convicted already.

All this does is inflame our enemies. No new information can be gained. Americans are going to die because some people hate the military and hate GWB. It is sickening.

The judge said: "Our nation does not surrender to blackmail, and fear of blackmail is not a legally sufficient argument to prevent us from performing a statutory command. Indeed, the freedoms that we champion are as important to our success in Iraq and Afghanistan as the guns and missiles with which our troops are armed."

"This man should be brought up on murder charges for every American who is killed because of his decision." I think you could put Rumsfeld's picture above this caption, couldn't you?

What a freedom is he championing...what are we gaining from more photos that the enemy uses against us...

The country was much better back in the day...stuff like this did not happen. During WWII this stuff was not allowed to be done. That is why we won WWII...the hippie liberal was not invented yet. They create a world of losers and quitters.

The judge also said that this was necessary for debate to continue..well, we can debate right here without all any more pictures..

The military did a great job punishing the people who did this...didn't they Jim?

ER posted on the same sunject over at his place, and one of his comentators supplied several examples of when the ACLU defended churches.

Ok, so they have made some token defenses so they can pont to them to refute charges of being anti Christian. They are still evil

Did the judge order the pictures from Sodom's Abu Ghraib to be released as well?

I think he should......Then we can compare which version was worse.

I'm quite certain this won't happen though.

This idiotic order will play out just like the fake Newsweek "Koran in the Toilet" story.......It will be deadly.

Mark, you're not such a bad guy after all. I've been reading your recent posts here, and have admired some.
Game, as usual your thoughts win my complete admiration. I have taken care of many WWII veterans (in the hospital), and their character, their insights, their bottom line common sense, is something I will grieve when the last of these heros are gone. That generation is truly 'the last best generation'. I will always remember the courageous, dignified responses these WWII veterans displayed then, and still do when they are faced with castastrophe. That generation fights off diseases without whining, without complaints, and their strong attitudes in doing so makes even the most callous nurses want to wait on them hand and foot. They don't demand, they try to maintain the most strength possible to keep from complaining. That makes the health care professionals WANT to embrace them with everything we can. On the other hand, so many patients these days,(not military), do nothing but whine and demand....when they are barely sick enough to even be in the hospital. That is why many nurses get burned out. Who can stand to be around a bunch of crybabies for very long? You won't hear about that as a reason in the media, though. And many nurses are even too ashamed to admit that as a reason to anyone other than coworkers, so you won't even hear that from many of them.
And Game, you know as well as I do, that the reason the pics are being ordered released has nothing to do with the public's right to know, but has everything to do with political strategy. Just more Bush bashing attempts.....more subtle, but the same old, same old.

Game, I want Judge Alvin to release nude pictures of Geena Davis and Bill Maher. Only then can we put to rest the shame of Abu Ghraib prison.

Sorry about the Bill Maher thing. What was I thinking.

Well Game, they punished the prison guards, the first line, if you will. And they scapegoated General Karpinski who had never run a prison before. But the military intelligence officers, CIA agents, and private contractors who were involved have not been punished. Nor has there been any follow up on the Teguba report and the investigation of the higher-ups who encouraged these methods.

There is still no reason to release more photos...

Everone here will agree that anyone who is responsible for this should be punished...the ones directly responsible have been, and I'm sure they are looking at others. But with the Left's thinking, everytime the lowest pee-on worker does something wrong, the CEO should be fired....

Still waiting to hear why these photo's need to be released, except to make Bush and the military look bad...and maybe to make sure the body count goes up.

Simply put, they should be released because it is the law.

I don't believe there is any attempt being made to "make...the military look bad." How does exposing criminal acts of the few equate to making the military look bad? This is another word game by which you attempt to frame the criticism of a few "peons" as criticism of the entire military. This is simply not the case.

The pictures can't make Bush look bad unless he accepts responsibility for them, which he won't (and I'm not claiming that he should). I think most of the blame lies with the Pentagon for allowing or setting conditions under which this behavior could happen.

I believe, and correct me if I am wrong, that the Nuremburg defendants used much the same defense.

"We were only following orders!"

Sometimes a law can be a bad law. That's why we have higher courts. And that's why all the fuss over Judicial appointments.

Thanks Stephanie, visit my place and see if you still think so.

Mark,

I thought you wanted judges who follow the law and don't make up their own laws. Do you want this judge to make up his own laws based on this particular case, or do you want him to follow the law prescribed for all such cases? Isn't this what the "fuss over Judicial appointments" is all about?

I'm not sure what you're comparing the Nuremburg trials to, Mark. If it is the defense of the prison guards, neither I nor anyone else has accepted the defense that they were only following orders.

If it is about the decision of this judge, this has nothing to do with nor any comparison to the Nuremburg trials, and any such comparison is silly. One is about obeying or not obeying illegal and immoral orders, and the other is about enforcing the laws of the US Government and Constitution (which I assume you would agree are legal and moral).

Ok game, your kidding with all this right? Our "enemies" don't even care about us any more, we are collateral damage at this point. The shites are after the sunnis and the sunnis are after the shites and the kurds are protecting themselves from both and the shites are forming factions and fighting among themselves. At this point we are an after thought.
If we are to be responsible Americas we should have all the evidence and take proper action. If the world sees us do this they will have far more respect than pretending something didn't happen.

Ron,
We have punished the people involved already, and no, the world will not think better of us if we show more degrading pictures. There will be outrage in the arab world...
look at past history...
