A reason to support the death penalty

Police: Driver Hit Vegas Crowd on Purpose

A few highlights:

A driver intentionally steered his car onto a sidewalk on the crowded Las Vegas Strip and then accelerated in a deadly scene resembling "humans being mowed down like a lawnmower," police said.
One person died and 13 were hospitalized, many with major injuries. A 27-year-old man faces charges of murder and attempted murder, Deputy Police Chief Greg McCurdy said Thursday.
"It appears he did this intentionally. The reason is questionable," McCurdy said.

The man, Stephen Michael Ressa of Rialto, Calif., had also been sought by his hometown police in a near-fatal assault Monday on his mother, who owned the car Ressa was driving in Las Vegas.

The injured were strewn along the sidewalk and were being treated in the street by emergency personnel as stunned tourists looked on. Traffic on the Las Vegas Strip was stopped for almost five hours.

Rialto police Det. Sgt. Reinhard Burkholder said Thursday that Ressa was wanted for questioning in the assault on his 54-year-old mother.

"He punched her numerous times in the face and choked her into unconsciousness and stood over her with a butcher knife," Burkholder said.

Ressa may have been under the influence of methamphetamine, Burkholder said.

He was not being pursued by officers when he crashed in Las Vegas, police said.

This story is a great example why we need the death penalty.
This story shows why libertarians are wrong about all drugs being legal. They say that people are not bothering others when they do drugs. "They are just harming themselves." Well, I guess that is not always the case.

In fact, society does not need anymore worthless hand-out driven losers.

No one, no party, no multitude of laws can prevent senseless crimes and maintain freedom. What I want to know is how are we raising our children? This man beat his mother and then drove through a crowd of people. He lacks the basic human quality of empathy, feelings and respect for others. Why are we so eager to kill each other here in America with little regard for human life like nowhere else in the world?

You make a false argument on behalf of the libertarians. The drug is already illegal and this still happened. Also, there are already laws in place to charge this guy with. If the citizens who live in Nevada choose not to have the death penalty, even in the face of horrific crimes, the 10th amendment guarantees that right to choose not to have it.

Isn't it your stance as a libertarian that all drugs are legal? That would just create more people acting like this guy.

And the people in Nevada can have the laws they want, I am stating that they should have the death penalty...which is my right.

I agree with average joes post here. What kind of people are having children these days!? I think the why should be a question we ponder. I think I will. May have a blog piece on it myself.:-)
II is right to say thast this happened despite our drug laws. People should be arrested for an actual crime not what they choose to do as a part of our quickly diminishing individual liberty. I am in favor of the death penalty if there is proof beyond the shadow of a doubt.

I read that the guy said he saw demons on the sidewalk and wanted to kill them...

a case were drug use is not just an individual right...but took other peoples rights to live

Then we should outlaw alcohol too because it is the cause of more broken homes, more death and destruction that all the other drugs combined.

alcohol and tobacco make the whole drug issue complicated...maybe they should be illegal too...problem is people demand it and will not stand for it to be illegal...
