This is a very interesting topic...a few points of interest:
1. How far do you believe the "separation of Church and State" goes? Do you think there should be absolutely NO religion in ANY public place or institution....or do you realize it simply means the government can not FORCE you to participate in a religion...
2. How can schools not allow kids to pass out candy canes? What the hell? When I see stuff like this it reminds me how crazy the PC crowd is. A VAST majority of people celebrate Christmas. Why do we always have to take away from the majority so the very few are not offended?
3. Why would a store not call it Christmas when the reason they are making trillions of dollars is because of Christmas...
I am very glad that the silent majority is not being over and taking it anymore...finally the majority is sick of it.....good for them.

Regarding point number 1:
This is not a legitimate question because it presents two extreme alternatives. You might as well ask, "Do you think it's OK to beat your wife...or do you realize that women cannot be FORCED to be stay-at-home moms?"
Neither alternative you offer is a position that any serious person would take. Most people who are for separation of church and state do not advocate NO religion in ANY public place or institution.
Furthermore, the Anglican Church has been ESTABLISHED as the Official Church of England, but the British Government does not and cannot FORCE anyone to participate in that religion.
So your second alternative is nonsense.
OK, the Libertarian alternative. Dont force me to have to deal with YOUR religion, whatever the hell it is. Other than that, no big deal.
Seriously, if they want the Ten Commandments in some gov't building, it straddles the line. If the people are in favor, do it. If they arent, pass it by. Same thing with a city crest of arms or whatever.
Oh, and Christmas is just a stupid holiday. Let people celebrate it HOWEVER they want to. They can call it Christmas or Yule or Kwaanza(sp?)or Hannukah, and tickle each other with pickles, if they so choose. Its lame to refuse to call it Christmas. Hoever, since Christ was born in the spring, it really was just an attempt to co-opt the pagan Yule holiday, anyway.
I have to agree with rhyno...probably since I can be a libertarian at times...
just don't take away what most people want to do because a few people don't like it...
At least Jim didn't say "drivel".
On January 1, 1802 Jefferson wrote in a letter to the Danbury Baptist Association of Connecticut, "I contemplate with solemn reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church and State." Jefferson wanted to remove all fears that the state would make dictates to the church.
"To say the Bible's principles should not be allowed in government and school is to either be ignorant of the historic intent of the founding fathers, or blatantly bigoted against Christianity" - which liberals are, without a doubt.

Most "liberals" are Christian, so why would they be bigoted against Christianity. As much as you claim that America has a tradition of Judeo-Christianity (sticking the "Judeo" part in there so as not to be too blatant), it also has a tradition of separation of church and state.
That doesn't mean that the "Bible's principles" should not be allowed in government or school. It is my opinion that the principles of not killing, not lying, not stealing or cheating are pretty well-represented at all levels of government and school. What other Bible principles would you want to have in government and school that are not already there? Why do they have to be "Christian" principles when not killing, lying or cheating are universal priciples?
This is the biggest, made up , phoney issue of the entire year...there is no "war on christmas". O'liely and ilk are just looking for something to whine about and liberal bash.
