Bush Threatens Veto of Spending Bills

President Bush said Friday he would use his power to veto spending bills if Congress does not cut the federal budget as he has asked.

This is some positive news out of Washington. The entire govt has been spending out of control. It is both parties and the President. It is nice to finally see the President seem like he will try and get spending out of control.

The problem is always the liberal special interest groups representing people who want hand-outs...the best thing that could ever happen to some people is make them think they have to work....start acting like a human being.

I hope Bush sticks to this...the Right better start acting like they are supposed to, how they are expected to...otherwise it will not be good for them in November.

Maybe Bush should stop spending so much, then he wouldnt have to point the finger at other people, and tell them to cut it out.

Wrong. The problem is of course the Republics representing the very wealthy and the corporations who demand hand-outs. You know, like $350 Billion dollar tax cuts to the wealthiest. Subsidies and free access to government-owned oil fields for oil companies like ExxonMobile, who made, what was it? $10 Billion last quarter. Non-competitive contracts to war profiteers like Halliburton.

In the meantime we're nearing a half billion dollars down the tubes in Iraq with a Trillion dollars looming in the near future.

But go ahead, smear the liberals. It's the only thing you CAN do.

Half trillion, I mean.

You mean companies like ExxonMobile and Halliburton that employ and give benefits to several hundred thousand people? Or tax cuts that allow people to keep and invest more of their own money they've rightfully earned, expanding the economy and creating growth?

Did you know that Halliburton is losing money in Iraq? No, they don't cover that on CNN, do they? And what is Halliburton doing there? Providing food for our troops (supporting them), building schools, power plants, water treatment facilities, roads, hospitals, etc (also known as improving the quality of life for Iraqis).

Oh, and Clinton used Halliburton just as much as Bush does...nobody complained back then...

Instead of bashing Bush anew, why not give him kudos for finally growing a pair with regard to spending? Positive reinforcement is a great motivator, especially for politicians.

Let's see him use his "pair" instead of just swinging them back and forth.

Check HAL on the NYSE. Summer 2002 stock price about $9 a share. Yesterday's close over $77 a share.

Who exactly is losing money?

Your getting sharp with those stats jim. I am impressed.

It's easy to actually cite facts. They're very available.

I know you're not naive enough to think Iraq is their only contract, so I'll just let that one sit.

I'd be interested to hear you explain why exactly you think no-bid contracts are a bad thing, and along with that, what other companies would have bid if given the chance? Exactly which other evil multinational corporations have the resources, experience and desire to handle the job that Haliburton is doing? What if one of them was awarded the same contract Haliburton was? would you still be complaining? or are you just biased against the company once affiliated with Dick Cheney?

Companies are who give people jobs...not your liberal wefare programs that have created a permanent underclass...so anytime you want to get a clue and understand that it is your thought process that makes people poor losers, it would be a nice start...

why is it that when all these rich people get tax cuts...the economy gets better and new jobs are created? Tell me how giving out more food stamps and more free hand outs gives people jobs???

And why are you so mad that American companies do well? You must like the way things are going on in France...

here is a great post explaining very clearly how stupid someone has to be to still be spewing out the same old line that "bush gave evil cooperations and rich people tax cuts"

http://espellahumanzee.blogspot.com/2006/04/tax-cuts-bush-boom.html

And that is why the Right has to fight hard...I am tired of seeing what your mindset and party have done. I am tired of seeing 18 year olds who can't read, have no parents, are on drugs, looking for the next handout...love the Left for giving it to them and giving them a free "race card" and next hand out...I am really getting sick of the stupid crap I have to read on here...

Take a week off Jim, and come to my school...I'll show you what your party has done.

I don't know what other corporations are capable, but any that thought they were capable should be able to have a fair chance of making a competitive bid. Without competitive bidding, we don't know for sure if Halliburton is profiteering (well, actually we do and we know they are cheating because they've been caught several times) or not. You know those things that "conservatives" like to talk about like free enterprise and free markets? I wouldn't have any problem at all if another company got the contract at the same price if I knew that the competition for the contract was fair and on the up and up.

Do you think it is coincidence that the market capitalzation of Halliburton went from $4.7 Billion six months before the war to $39.9 Billion today?

So is it STUPID to be suspicious that the company that gets a no-bid contract from the administration that apparently was all set to go to war in Iraq as soon as they took office just happens to be the company that the vice president was CEO of just prior to becoming VP? I don't think so.

And if you DON'T think they wanted to go to IRAQ before they took office, then you are uninformed. You can read the Project for a New American Century website and note that Cheney and Rumsfeld are signatories of the statement of principles.

Don't cite that blog as any kind of credible source. It is to laugh. I'd sooner trust Michelle Malkin. But I won't.

If you want to know who got the most benefit out of the tax cuts, read the studies and reports. If you want to know that the income of average Americans has been essentially flat in the last 5 years while the value of Halliburton has risen over six-fold, read the facts. If you want to know that the poverty rate has risen since 2001, read the administration's reports.

If you want to know that this administration turned an annual budget surplus into a nearly half-trillion dollar annual deficit, read the facts.

If you want to know that key members of the administration have intended to invade Iraq for nearly a decade PRIOR to 9/11, read the facts.

There are efficient and effective schools all over this country. And bad ones, too. This administration has been in power for over 5 years and the Republics have held power in the House for nearly 12. What the hell are THEY doing about your school?

you are not smart enough to understand what is happening in the inner city...it has nothing to do with how much money is given to a school, it isn't politicians...

Its the liberal mindset that minorities are not responsible enough to take care of themselves...they expect everything given to them. They blame white people for all their problems...where does that come from?

Who teaches them that?
Repubicans?
Conservatives?
Nope...its people like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, these people and anyone else giving handouts and making excusses that make inner city schools what they are...the kids come from failure that has been guaranteed by welfare, the projects and other liberal programs...

But I'm sure you are in contact with inner city youth....I'm sure your theories and things you heard from liberal professors who have never met someone in the inner city are much more relivant than someone who sees it every single day...

We need one million bill cosby's to talk for 20 years to try and fix the damage liberalism has caused the inner city.

Jim said...

You've already said I'm a moron, so why should "be smart enough" to know what goes on in the inner city?

It's your city. I have no control over it. My city seems to work pretty well and we have plenty of minorities.

It's your city. Do something about it.
