Lots of comments here lately....
I'm sure the liberals will comment, how about the conservates?

How do we lower gas prices?

The liberals aren't going to like this list, but it's a sure-fire way to lower prices:

- Allow exploration and exploitation of new oil fields
- Build new refineries
- Increase fuel efficiency

On the margins, but good policy nonetheless:

- Lower taxes, and not just the gasoline taxes
- Eliminate the minimum mark-up laws that mandate the same profit level to the individual gas station that ExxonMobil is getting hammered for

What won't work:
- "Capping" profits (those profit bonuses that go to the executives and and dividends paid out to stockholders will simply be converted to salaries to the executives)
- Any form of a windfall profit tax (last time we tried that in the '80s, the oil companies stopped exploring and bought the oil on the open market from the likes of Saudi Arabia and Venezuela)
- That ridiculous $100 "rebate" floating around the Senate
- Increased ethanol usage (we're importing half the ethanol we use now, it's 40 cents/gallon more expensive than gasoline on the trading markets, and its production using current methods is a net oil consumer)

Suck it, Libs-
1) Drill in Alaska
2) Drill in the arctics
3) Reevaluate what is in your own garage*
4) Reevaluate how much you drive what is in your garage*
5) Walk*
6) Make your children walk*
7) Bicycle*
8) Make your children bicycle*
* With apologies to my conservative brethren, these are simple methods to "tweak" the law of supply and demand.
Use less - demand decreases - prices decrease.
It Economics for Dummies - Cry baby, liberals need the book!!!

The first 2 posters already covered the high points. A couple more:
- Standardize the formulations so there aren't 17 different types of gas the need refining.
- Do something about the speculators
- Develop alternative energies, both for transport and for homes.
- Quit screwing with people who are using alternative energy for their homes.
- Make UPS's route optimization program available to everyone. Do you realize that making left turns wastes gas? :)

Not that you would lower yourself to read the J/S, but they had a great column on Mexico's hypocrisy towards immigrants. I thought you and your con brethren would enjoy it. Its in the OP-ED section.

you guys are right on...
liberals wont comment on this because:
1. they are the cause of high gas prices
2. their stupid solutions like a cap do not work...

I lived in Hawaii..Dem's are taking big time heat right now for having a cap...it actually makes prices higher...

drill
refine
efficent energy sources
and also new technology, new forms of energy...
we don't have to sit here and ONLY talk about oil....
if liberals can get over nuclear energy being evil, it would be great if our cars ran on batteries and we could plug them in...I would be for it...especially if that meant my car energy bill was like 20 bucks a month

How do we lower gas prices?

Quit buying the crap, quit buying into it, until they say "ok, we're gonna lower the prices, so you'll buy it"...

Dedanna said...

Let's see... non-partisan, totally, makes sense, could help the economy... there's actually other good things about it...

Naaaaaaahhhhh, we can't do it. :-p~~~~~~~~~~

Oh yah! AND, it could actually prove that we need to do something else in the process, imagine that!

Increase fuel efficiency - liberal idea since they've been asking for higher CAFE standards for years.

$100 Rebate - Pushed by Bill Frist and GOP. Now they are backing off.

ANWR drilling - according to the Department of Energy, drilling in ANWR would reduce projected U.S. dependence on oil imports by only 4 percent over the next 20 years, from 68 percent in 2025 to 64 percent.

Liberals have been calling for conservation as a way to decrease demand for years. Liberals understand the laws of supply and demand.

Conservatives like Game say:

"Americans do not have to use less energy, that is why we are a free country..."

The Game said...

People SHOULD conserve, but they do not HAVE to...

Your problem is you think using less will solve the problem, and you DO NOT understand supply and demand.

IF we use less, and China used 10 times more, there is still more DEMAND...

WE NEED TO INCREASE OUR SUPPLY

it is LIBERALS who have stopped our supply

no new refineries
no drilling
no nuclear

god am I sooooo right on this

The supply of oil is not infinite, Game. We can drill and drill and not do anything about our reliance on oil and we'll always be competing with China. And then one day soon, we'll be using more than there is to pump out of the ground.

Then where are we?

Sometimes, Game, what we don't HAVE to do is actually the smart thing to do.

BTW, I've said before that I'm in favor of nuclear power. It has proved to be safe. Thirty years ago, we didn't know that.

The Game said...

we need to find new sources, but for now we need to get as much as we can and refine it as quick as possible...

Oh, yeah, that's right. We should burn as much fossil fuel as we can get out of the ground because global warming, which is not occurring, is not affected by carbon dioxide emissions. And mankind is too miniscule to do anything about it anyway. Although, I was reading this book today that said:

"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."
