Is it okay for the American people to decide what is legal and illegal in their country?
Isn't that was laws really are...we send people to washington to decide what is right and wrong.
So why is it, over and over again, that when people decide they want something to be illegal, judges overturn it...
It has happend countless times in California...but here is one more example:
The Georgia constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage was approved by 76 percent of the state's voters in November 2004. On Tuesday, however, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Constance C. Russell ruled the measure violated the Georgia constitution's single-subject rules for ballot questions.
So, 76% of the people in a state want something illegal..but it seems once again the majority does not get what it wants..
just like with voter ID, border security, spending limits, ect...

What if Minnesota pissed the rest of the country off and 76% of the people voted to deny Minnesotans the right to vote? Is majority rule OK?
What if Minnesota had a law that said any proposed amendment to the Minnesota Constitution could be about one thing and one thing only? What if 76% of Minnesotans agreed with that law? What if the legislature or the people passed a law that said:
"No person over the age of 65 will pay state tax. And the state speed limit will NEVER exceed 40 miles per hour."
What if the Supreme Court of Minnesota said this amendment was illegal because the way it was written was confusing and people might favor one part and not the other?
Would this situation totally confound you? Would you not be able to understand why the Court MUST overturn it?
I understand that people can come up with poor decisions...
but you are really pulling things to the extreme...
is that how bad you see the gay marriage issue?

Why is gay marriage an issue at all?
Do either one of you give a damn what gays do?
There always have been gays, there always will be gays.
I say I leave them alone if I don't like their lifestyle, and they leave me alone. I'm happy.
Why does anyone think they're such a threat to society in general? I seriously want to know this one.
Why bother with this at all, when there's real issues at stake?

And, why does Georgia even get to vote on such a trivial issue?
What have gays done to Georgia?

Gay marriage is an issue to me because I know many gays who are denied a civil right that all heterosexuals have, the right to be married to one other person.
How simple is that?
Game, your response makes no sense. My post includes very simple to understand examples of why the majority should not always rule. Why is that extreme? My post had nothing whatsoever to do with the gay marriage issue. It had to do with laws and constitutions and why we have a Bill of Rights and courts. We have a Bill of Rights specifically to guarantee the rights of the few from the oppression of the majority. Is that a complex concept?
The referendum violated the law. How can it be made law, when the initial vote wasnt legal? I realize this is Georgia, but we need standards for laws, dont we game?
Why must marriage in the legal sense be between a man and a woman?

Nobody has the right to marry more than one person, therefore no discrimination.
Sodomy is legal in most states. No discrimination.
Beatiality (it's pretty absurd even to be arguing this point) does not have anything to do with the rights, priviledges, tax laws, or any other consequences of two people in a legal union. Therefore, no discrimination.
