ACLU Probes Six Flags Hairstyle Ban

Very interesting story...
is it racism?
Should business be allowed to hire employees that will present the image they desire?
I believe there is a line but this is not it...
For example, if a restaurant had a waiter who all of a sudden tattooed his face and got a nose ring...I believe that person could be fired because it would hurt business....
What do you think?

I don't have a problem with dress codes or appearance codes as long as they are administered fairly. I could also see there being a question about fairness based on who decides what "all-American" means.

But in general, non-descriminatory dress and appearance codes for employees are alright by me.

If you say its ok, then you have to abide by the following, as well. If Little Johnny wants a job at the bar or something that caters to a different clientel than his polo shirt and flip-flop appearance, then they should be able to fire/not hire his because he is too suburban white looking.

I work in banking, granted I don't see 'customers' but when I got a tattoo that could be visible on a daily basis for our 'internal' customers, I took it upon myself to run it by management. You can still express yourself and fit in with corporate america...some people are just hell bent on 'damning the man'

Six Flags is in the business of making money and I doubt that the ACLU will find a judge who will tell a company how they should want their "product" to look. Despite the fact that this young man will probably be in a costume, I'm sure that Six Flags, like most companies, has a dress code (hair code, included) which spells out how they want their employees to look.

I work in a very corporate environment and understand that ALL companies have an image that they want to project to their customers. People with 3-foot long braids/dreadlocks is something that is not fitting with the look that Six Flags is trying to achieve.

If he were my 17-year old son, he wouldn't have 3-foot long braids... Hell, I doubt that he'd be wearing braids in the first place. But for the sake of this argument, I would have advised him to cut his hair to an appropriate length and sent his ass back to work!

Incidently, I also posted a blog about this incident on plezWorld.
