But.....I thought liberals were for free speech and diversity?
I think it is funny how the liberals who come here can not criticize Democrats at all....
This is clearly wrong, but I am sure there will be some lame excuse as to why this is okay...
Remember kids, free speech is only okay if it is liberal speech.

I think its funny that one of the crappiest states in the US did it.
Oh gosh, oh golly! Someone wants
Coulter's books banned. Oh-my-God!
Um, how many radio stations banned the Dixie Chicks from airplay? How many record stores banned the Dixie Chicks' CDs?
Another BFD here.
But, Jim, it wasn't two state senators suggesting that the Dixie Chicks be banned. It was a grassroots effort by normal citizens who were disgusted by their actions.
Many people are disgusted by Ann Coulter, and I can see why (I, personally, can read her work while still understanding what is satire and what is not), but that doesn't mean that books should be banned.
Thank you for proving your blind liberal hypocrisy Jim...you are not intellectually honest, just a liberal hack...
and the govt didn't ban the Dixie chicks, they spoke out, then their fans spoke out...even though they sold a lot of CD's last week, they had to cancel some shows due to poor ticket sales...
Thank you for making me feel good that I can be honest on issues and jump all over the GOP when they suck...liberals must not be smart enough to think since they stick up for Democrats no matter what they do...as you have PROVEN once again here...
that was from me
You are not honest.
I did not stick up for any Democratic senators. To suggest that is dishonest. I merely pointed out that Democrats aren't the only people who want to ban stuff. I think it is foolish to suggest banning Coulters book's. I think people should just not buy crap from her.
Two senators suggesting that bookstores not carry books is not the government banning a book. The government can't do it, the senators know the government can't do it. Everybody with any sense knows the government can't do it. Only the Bush administration could do it because they don't pay any attention to the law or constitution if it doesn't suit their interests.
It's is stupid to suggest that the government is trying to ban books.
Ann Coulter writes satire? Ask her if she considers what she writes and says satire. I don't think she does.
OMG!!!!!
for one sentence Jim admitted Democrats did something wrong...STOP THE PRESSES....
On the subject of banned books:
A Wrinkle In Time was banned in 2005 by the government.
1984 was also banned in 2005 by the government.
My daughter's favorite book, Bless Me Ultima was banned in 2005 by the government.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was banned in 2005 by the government.
Books Challenged or Banned in 2004-2005
To Kill A Mockingbird is #40 on the top 100 banned books of the 1990s list according to the American Library Association
Still think Ann's book shouldn't be banned? When our government is banning classics like these, I see not why Ann Coulter's book shouldn't be banned either.
What government is banning these books? No government of mine is banning these books. What country do you live in? Did you actually read the source that you have cited? Nowhere does this indicate that any of these books have been banned from the general public by any government agency.
It is possible that some school libraries have had these books removed from their shelves or schools have had these books removed from school reading lists. I disagree with any such action.
My government does not ban books. They ban reports that they are required to make, they re-classify documents that have been de-classified for years. They ignore a lot of laws.
But they have not banned any of the books you have listed.
dedanna, two wrongs don't make a right
game, don't you even go saying I'm wrong. You don't know the fucking difference between right and wrong.
Jim, all you need do is run a search for "books banned by the united states government", and you'll get the books themselves, plus timelines of banned books. If you read the links thoroughly, you'll see that there have been those that have been banned by schools, et. al, but you'll also see that the government has indeed banned quite a few.
UWM has a deal in (I think its Oct)the fall where they give out a list of the Top 100 banned books in the US. Some are banned by the national gov't, but most are state mandated or by local school systems. I have it somewhere if you want to see what (mostly southern) conservatives do when they run amok. Yeah, I said Cons. Why? Cuz restricting literature is a conservative idea. If you advocate it, you are acting conservative. If you dont advocate it, you are acting normal.
will you take a pill dedanna, my god.
I meant that by doing one thing wrong (banning your list of books)...doesn't make it right then to ban Ann's book...
and liberals are NOT emotional...right.
I stand somewhat corrected. I was referring to more recent history regarding the US Government banning books. It is still absurd to suggest that two Senators could get books legally banned today.
no one said they would get them banned..it is that they WANT them banned...
you say that they are wrong...that they want to stop any speach that they do not agree with...that is really it...
Game, you started out doing just fine. I could respect your differentiating between wanting Coulter's book banned and actually getting it banned.
Then you fall into your same old routine. You totally mis-represent what I said. I never said it was wrong. I said it was foolish. I wouldn't do it. I think they look foolish doing what they are trying to do.
Then you dive deeper into the bullshit by making a statement that comes out of nowhere and has no basis in fact. There is no hint, suggestion, or statement that these two want to ban any speech they disagee with. They never said it nor implied it. This "speech" that they want to ban is very specific--vile and hateful. I'm sure these senators would also disagree with the Republic National Platform, most things written or said by most Bush supporters, or anything written previously by Coulter. They would not want to nor suggest that anybody ban these things. So once again your phoney assertion is just . . .
More bullshit.
do you need a hug Jim???
