Kick Jesus out of school!!!!

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two civil liberties groups sued in federal court Wednesday to remove a picture of Jesus that has hung in a high school for more than 30 years.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the West Virginia American Civil Liberties Union say the painting, "Head of Christ," sends the message that Bridgeport High School endorses Christianity as its official religion.

You know damn well that if it was ANY other religious figure or symbol, no problem....and how does having a picture of Jesus force anyone to practice a certain religion...

here is the line that really gets me:
Public schools cannot promote specific religious ideas.
So, no talk about right and wrong, no talk about doing the right thing, being kind, cooperative, nice...I believe no one ever taught that to many of the kids I see in public school....things were A LOT better before liberals started attacking Jesus...Is it just a coincidence that schools had much less behavior problems back when teachers were allowed to do a little teaching about right and wrong, maybe even mention Jesus once and awhile...
Liberals have completely bastardized the meaning of the separation of church and state...why was there sooooooo much religious references back when this country was founded?

Where was this soooooooooooo much religious references back when the country was founded? Can you provide some examples?

Why didn't they put it into the Constitution? I mean they wrote what they meant and meant what they wrote, didn't they?

I agree with you completely, Jim. I'm a "we hold these truths to be self-evident" Republican, not a blood and soil Republican.

I despise the Churchie wing of the Republican party, but as long as the Democrats continue to push Osama bin Laden's foreign policy agenda, I'll have to put up with the knuckleheads.

The people that founded this country were deeply religious, they understood how important is was, and liberals like you who have no clue what you are EVER talking about has taken one of the cornerstones, one of the building blocks of this once great nation...now we can't even mention Jesus in school, can have a picture...its pathetic and sad...much like the fact you liberals have no clue that religion was a key value in this countries creation...you have no clue and never will

Thank you for the examples (note that the Patrick Henry quote is in dispute since it supposedly was given in 1765 and refers to "this nation". At the time there was no "nation". Virginia was a colony.)

Everyone knows God is mentioned in the Declaration of Independence. Why isn't He mentioned in the Constitution?

Thaaat's right...schools were MUCH better back when no one was attacking Jesus...like when they were segregated...that was a GREAT era for American education.

Bottom line, it's a moot point to consider what would've been done if it had been another religious icon's picture, because it would never BE another religious icon. I guess the other demonitations understand that there's a place for public education, and there's a place to worship...and that they are not the same place. Poor, poor, persecuted Christians, WILL you ever find a place to worship?

Game, before you accuse people of not having a clue, you should get some edu-ma-catin' yourself. It shows an immense amount of ignorance to claim knowledge of some ultimate "truth" regarding the Constitution and the first ammendment while disregarding two centuries of controversy and debate over how the establishment clause should be interpreted. To characterize your view as "obvious" shows incredible arrogance.

Show me your law degree and proof of 25 years or more of practice or scholarship of Constitutional law, and I might take your opinion on the subject seriously.

I would not dispute that founding fathers thought very highly of religion, spoke of it often. I don't know how often they spoke of it, but there are quotes. (The Patrick Henry quote is disputed, fyi).

However, the ACLU claim is ludicrous. Simply inane. Similar references to religion are spoken by our elected officials everyday without legal consequence. Just a really stupid claim.

so you are saying that the ten commandments would be in the SCOTUS if it was built or founded today....NO WAY, that ACLU would never let it in there, but back when people accepted religion it was fine...
and you really, really believe that when a pic or jesus, or when a xmas play was put on 100 years ago, people complained...come on Jim, get a clue.

This country was not founded nor built upon christianity.

And, a lot of people consider Jesus to be god.

It would be un-fucking-fair and unconstitutional to everyone in the u.s. if in any governmental institution we posted Jesus or any other religious head.

I would never dare do that to anyone, whether it be in a gov't institution or not -- I won't let my version of religion be pushed onto anyone else. They have their own.

Just common courtesy if nothing else.

I guess you have none, game (but then that's been obvious for quite some time).
