Marine Names Murtha in Defamation Suit

A Marine Corps staff sergeant who led the squad accused of killing two dozen civilians in Haditha, Iraq, will file a lawsuit today in federal court in Washington claiming that Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.) defamed him when the congressman made public comments about the incident earlier this year.

Attorneys for Frank D. Wuterich, 26, argue in court papers that Murtha tarnished the Marine's reputation by telling news organizations in May that the Marine unit cracked after a roadside bomb killed one of its members and that the troops "killed innocent civilians in cold blood." Murtha also said repeatedly that the incident was covered up.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you...
There should be consequences for going on TV and making false accusations.
Murtha didn't know what happened in Haditha, yet he was on TV saying US soldiers were murdering civilians. If civilians were murders, the military will take care of it. Hopefully, our justice system takes care of Murtha.

The military just ruled that they DID intentially kill civlians. Guess that lawsuit is going to fizzle.

The lawyer is doing all he can for this guy. You are right rhyno..fizzle. Murtha is not one to tell stuff before he knows for sure..proof is he was right. It is sad stuff though and I wish the marine or murtha or us didn't have to go through this. I hope that this guy doesn't get a really stiff penelty. Just enough to show the world we care and this is not what we are about.
