Bush to sign bill to prevent Internet gambling

I just don't like this.
It is along the same lines of not smoking in private business and illegal trans fats.
Where is the line? When does it change from personal responsibility to the government trying to protect its citizens?
I believe the line keeps moving. It keeps moving into our lives.
I do believe there has to be a line, however. It can't be libertarian where everyone can do anything they want. But this is another example of the line going to far.

Update on the trans fat war

Don't fool yourself.

A bill like this isn't about protecting people from gambling...it's about protecting the tax revenue associated with specific forms of legalized gambling.

The states don't get "their share" of gambling profits when people bet on the internet.

I knew I should listen to my instincts...this is a big story...people are pissed at this, and they should be...
How can this be?
I am talking bad about the Right?
I must have read the wrong talking points email today

It's totally about non-internet gambling interests.

Yeah, gambling is a states issue, isnt it?

Definitely not the purvue of the feds. I can understand the intention behind such a bill, and though tax revs might indeed be a part, there are many who would prefer that gambling remain outlawed for most of the country. Personally, I don't like it at all. If a few bums want to shoot craps in an alley, so what? If someone wants to lose his house playing Texas hold-'em on line, that's his own problem. Though there are legitimate concerns about the families of addicts, and the abuses by criminal elements, prohibiting the wagering of responsible law-abiding citizens seems unAmerican.
