I read this and my first though it...."It's about time"
We should be doing what it takes to meet our objectives...which was to get rid of Saddam and then get a stable government in place.
But then, another part of me says..."Too little, too late"
Bush let the pressure from liberals, whose ideas only bring about failure and lose, get to him, and let it affect his strategy.
So really, you have to blame Bush. He didn't have to try to make everyone happy. If we went in there and really kicked ass...liberals would have bitched, and we would have won....
We really don't learn from history....
Since the start of the modern, peace loving hippie liberal, all the USA can do is lose.

Bush to Expand Size of Military

You need to learn from history. If you read Cobra II, Plan of Attack, or any number of recent books, you will know that the size of the US invasion force had NOTHING to do with liberals or liberal thought and EVERYTHING to do with Rumsfeld's desire to prove that his "re-modeled" military could be light and lean and do the job. Tommy Franks started planning Cobra II with 3-400,000 troops and Rummy kept making him go lower and lower and lower. Rummy even wanted to stop sending in troops when US forces took Bagdhad and even start withdrawing them.
You can blame Rumsfeld and all the rest of the neocons who believed Chalabi and thought that they could simply topple Saddam and leave and everything would be fine. Nobody listened to the military and nobody listened to the State Department. Ignoring those with knowledge and experience is a sure sign of ideology mixed with incompetence.
At that's why we are where we are. Has nothing whatsoever to do with liberal thought.
"Bush let the pressure from liberals, whose ideas only bring about failure and lose, get to him, and let it affect his strategy."
Bush is getting incredibly soft, and most of the public doesn't appreciate how dangerous this is. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today said it was a "Divine Promise" that the United States, the UK, and Israel will vanish, and yet we do not prepare for war, but for peacccccce. Jim Baker is the new sheriff in town, along with his posse of Saudi friends.
At least Bush isn't as bad as the liberals. Like their comrades in Hollywood, they think foreign policy is a matter of being liked.
Whether it is being applauded for an Oscar or an empty peace agreement with a Hitler, these weak people love to believe that everyone likes them. They think this is human nature, and if we show people like Nasrallah, Assad, and Ahmadinejad that they are making us unhappy, they will stop their plans for our destruction.
A funny video on appeasement

Jason, did you note the success of moderates in Iranian local elections recently? Do you think it might be in the best interest of the US to allow moderates to gain strength and replace Ahmadinejad on their own instead of alienating them and quashing a reform movement?
How are we alienating the moderate Iranians and quashing their reform movement exactly?
We aren't now, but if we bomb the shit out of them or invade them, seems to me the moderates will favor the mullahs and the mad-man over the bombers and invaders. I don't think they will welcome the invaders with flowers and sweets. Do you?
If we have patience and allow the moderates to gain political strength, we might actually be fostering a liberal democracy in Iran.
Well it would be nice if the assholes are overthrown from within, but just how long should we wait to insure that the assholes aren't meeting their goals at our risk before we take some sort of action? And if we have any contact with the moderate leaders, they might look forward to the help. I would also like to know if a moderate in that country resembels in any way what a moderate in most countries would be. In other words, a moderate there might be another asshole. Just wondering.
Jim--
We're talking about the prospect of westerners getting nuked by a apocalyptic fanatic.
Ahmadinejad's moderate opponent in the last election, Rasfanjani, believes Iran can win a nuclear war with the west. That gives you an idea of how extreme Ahmadinejad is.
Iran isn't a democracy in the Western sense. The Ayatollahs, who have the real power, give the people a choice between Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson every few years, and the public is supposed to oblige. That they are running figureheads this insane gives a clear direction how they want to export the Islamic Revolution.
The students may be pissed at us if we bomb Iran's nuclear facilities. But I'd rather have students have negative emotions, and socialists worldwide send us strongly worded letters, than see western cities incinerated. The ones with large Jewish populations-- Tel Aviv & NYC -- are at the top of the Islamofascist menu.
