I'd like to see how the academic community defends the 88 professors at Duke who signed that intolerant, hatefilled letter aimed first at the Lacrosse players, but ultimately at the US itself.

They were wrong in their rush to judgement. They now are hiding from the public and press. They refuse to admit they were wrong, and the academic community as a whole is running from them and their excess.

A couple of these professors flunked a couple of the players for just being on the team, not for their work as the players' A's and B's in the class before the incident attest to.

Duke has done nothing. They haven't removed the failures from the students' records, nor have they disciplined the professors in question.

Now, what do you educators have to say?

Game, you asked about how we get such problem students. Well, could it be the system brings part of the unrulyness upon themselves when educators are seen ascting like untouchable tin gods?

I had a professor of economics in college who was an unabashed liberal. His favorite saying was ”Once I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.”

Economics is an important subject, but it can be mind numbingly boring, which his class was, and made even more unbearable by his constant, inane, political commentary.

Probably in the realm of economics, more than any other, it’s easiest to show liberalism for the monumental failure it is. That’s why I’ve always thought of liberal economic professors as the embodiment of the walking – talking contradiction.

Scorpion says---
I remember my Political Science prof.with all his rantings and ravings being a lot like these twits. He gave this goofy final exam
that was to be 100% of the course grade. PROBLEM was he had to leave for South America before he finished his grading responsibilities.I was given an INC.in the course and was told to come in and pick-up my corrected exam at his office and verify his grading of the exam with the T.A.
I grabbed mine off a stack of recently graded tests. It was never opened or looked at.The pages still stuck together from when I handed it in.He had placed a grade of D on the COVER of the essay exam.NOTHING else. I made sure I avoided this type of "educator" the
rest of my career.Sound familiar?
Wonder what category this guy would
slip into forty-five years later. By the way,the embarrassed T.A.seeing that I KNEW the moron never looked at one page or answer
said he would turn in ANY GRADE I wanted him to in changing the INC.
IMAGINE THAT!!!

Talking about Poly Sci professors – I had one, who if he’s still around – has got to be a card carrying member of the Michael Moore movie club. He was constantly showing these propagandist moves that trashed Regan.

I remember one movie in particular about the Iran-Contra brouhaha. The Profs. main point was the ”end justifies the means” is not a valid argument, he must have made that point 10 times during the movie. After the movie I asked him how it was he supports affirmative action. Well from the look on his face you could tell he couldn’t believe I’d dare ask such a question. He explained there was no comparison between the two issues, I said “so there are times when “the end justifies the means” is a valid argument”, well then he just got pissed off.

Guess what, my grades mysteriously started suffering. I told myself I should have known better than to think a liberal Poly Sci professor would be interested in honest, open debate. I then became a “convert” to his way of thinking, I enthusiastically regurgitated all the crap he was attempting to brainwash us with, told him everything he wanted to hear, never asked another thought provoking question, and passed his course with a decent grade.

I do have to give that professor his due – he taught me a valuable lesson.
