The "Man Laws" TV spots used to sell Miller Lite beer are being dropped, but will likely return to the airwaves later this year, a Miller Brewing Co. spokesman said today.
The commercials have been effective, spokesman Pete Marino said. But Miller is shifting its strategy to focus more on the qualities that make Miller Lite, the company's No. 1 brand, different from other reduced-calorie beers, he said.
A new spot for Miller Lite debuted Sunday during the National Football League playoff broadcasts. It says Miller Lite was the first among major light beers, and says beers with "GHT," i.e., Bud Light and Coors Light, lack the taste of Miller Lite.
The "Man Laws" spots feature the "Men of the Square Table," led by actor Burt Reynolds, whose pronouncements on pop culture, known as "Man Laws," have generated a buzz about Miller Lite since the spots started airing in May, Marino said. He said the spots will return, probably when the 2007-'08 football season starts this fall.
Miller Lite's sales were uneven during the campaign. The company reported last week that Miller Lite's sales grew 1.5% during the quarter that ended Dec. 31, compared to the same period one year earlier. That came after an unspecified "low single-digit decline" during the six months ending Sept. 30-a period that coincided with much of the "Man Laws" campaign, which included radio spots.
Miller Lite accounts for around 47% of Miller's sales volume.
These are the best beer commercials in years.
My two favorite:
1. "Don't fruit the beer"
2. "What's next, I can't do this" (HHH rips off his shirt)

I missed the HHH one.
I liked the one outlawing "toll sips". This is something that should have been done long ago.
In my youth, I worked at Lambeau Field in the stands. I was as disturbed as the person buying the beer by people taking sips of the beers as they were passed down the row.
Justice was served once when the person buying the beer got up, move down the row and dumped the remaining beer on the jerk taking the toll sip saying, "You want the beer? Here it is!"
The usher moved in and told the toll sipper to quit making trouble or the toll sipper would be ejected from the stadium. Ejection from the stadium and bring loss of your season tickets.

I liked these too! Hope their back
in the near future.
It's a great campaign. The tough part will be trying to keep it going without getting stupid.
Marsh,
You mean "Bla-Lock" wasn't "Da-Umm"?
Must've missed that one, PCD.
Marsh,
Burt Reynolds hadn't looked so stupid since "Win, Lose or Draw". Well, maybe in his divorce with Lonnie Anderson.
Jimmy Johnson does have a touch for light comedy. Maybe he ought to try that instead of the broadcast booth.
Burt has always been able to laugh at himself. I like him in this commercial, his pissed off look on his face as if it's really serious business. It's all good.
