Excuse Me, For A Simple Opinion

from czabe.com
The 2008 Presidential Election should be a SINGLE issue election, in my opinion.
Immigration.
Period. End of list of problems to handle for the next 4 years. Let’s not muddy the water with anything else. Sure, terrorism is an issue. But we’ve had almost 7 years now to re-adjust to this new world reality. Let’s put it aside, just for now.
The issue of what is “America” all about and what it means to be an American needs to be addressed with no flinching, and brutal honesty. The more I read about the border, and illegals, and the political parties jockeying with proposals, the more it makes me sick.
This shouldn’t be too hard. Try to follow…
1. We have a porous southern border, and millions of illegal immigrants flooding this country every year. This is not good.
2. The first step in addressing this problem is to SECURE THE BORDER!
3. Once we’ve stopped the leaky pipe in America’s basement, we can then address how we “clean up” the messy details of those who are currently here illegally.
Closing the southern border is most important goal of the next 20 years. More important than the moon landing, or the Cuban Missile crisis.
And it shouldn't be hard. It's simple manpower, money, and bricks.
Sadly, it also takes a tanker truck of real political courage from our reps in Washington, and we know they don't have that. We know their type: spineless and willing to sell out for their next re-election.
To say that Bush’s proposal that sank like a rock was insulting to many conservatives like me, is an understatement. Statements by Trent Lott like “talk radio is running America, we need to handle that problem” are flat out scary.
What now, Hugo Chavez Lott? Sorry that ordinary citizens Trent are voicing their rage at government ignoring the people’s wishes.
I don’t have any firm belief about what to do with current illegal aliens, but I would sure like to hear every Presidential candidate lay out their thoughts. I do believe that without illegal workers, the cost of a lot of things would go up dramatically. I also believe some industries would suffer shortages of labor. I also believe that many illegal immigrants are hard working, law abiding, and crucially productive elements of our economy.
But still, its disturbing how little immigrants are integrating and ‘buying in’ to the American dream. Are we asking too much for Hispanics to be able to find a DVD under drama in an English only labeled section at Best Buy?
We are indeed, becoming balkanized. It’s a flat out disgrace. Read this about recent “identity group” graduation ceremonies from UCLA in the City Paper.
“But the core reason for separatist graduations is the obvious one: on campus, assimilation is a hostile force, the domestic version of American imperialism. On many campuses, identity-group training begins with separate freshman orientation programs for nonwhites, who arrive earlier and are encouraged to bond before the first Caucasian freshmen arrive. Some schools have separate orientations for gays as well. Administrations tend to foster separatism by arguing that bias is everywhere, justifying double standards that favor identity groups.”
Excuse me while I vomit in my mouth.
If the coming election was ALL about one thing ONLY: national policy on all things immigration and assimilation, would you really be upset? The future fate of this great country is literally at stake.

game,

Don't expect answers from Phil, Jay, and Jim on this. They have to consult the DNC, Think Progress, etc., and then try to hide the cutting and pasting of their ideas and obfuscations.

Keeping the pressure on Muslim Supremacists is more important to me than building the fence, however much that needs to be done. Hell, I would support a pro-defense Democrat at this point if that's what it took to keep our Republic intact.

I agree with Jason that the terrorism issue, that is, Islamic nutbags, should be job one. But I belive part of that job entails securing the borders. It's a security issue that aligns with the WOT.

I agree with Jason and Marshall. Securing our airports, chemical plants, ports, water supply, etc. would be of higher priority to me.

Securing the Canadian border would be crucial as well. Isn't it longer than the southern border? Terrorists can come in that way, too, can't they?

Enforce the laws. Fences are made to go over, under and through. We'd have enough money to enforce the laws but we're spending it elsewhere.

Show proof that where there is a fence there is no drop in illegals crossing...
You won't and can't because it cuts illegals crossings over 85 percent...
liberal trick:
just SAY something enough and it becomes true...building a fence would drop illegal immigration a great deal...and that is proven by facts

Where are these facts?

I agree with Jim.

As to the contention that fences cut border crossings by 85%, I'd like to see something to back that up. I know I've read about, for example, San Diego, but it seems like those who would have crossed there have simply found another place. (I don't think you'd argue that immigration has fallen off because the security's better in San Diego.)

Jim and Jay,

A fence with many holes and no patrolling is useless. BUT that is what you Democrats have been fighting for. I should amend that. You Democrats want open borders and your moneyman George Soros says so.

A patrolled fence does cut illegal immigration and terrorism. Look at Israel, and remember how you liberal Democrats railed against that fence.

Jay and Jim,

Stats are unnecessary to understand the benefits of a fence. Of course, as suggested, one need only look at Israel to see how it can work. But whether a fence is 100% is not the question. It doesn't have to be. Jay suggested that in the San Diego area it's possible they just found another place to enter. Fine. It worked for San Diego, and it illustrates the benefit. With the fence in place there, the illegals had to find another way. Obviously it would have been easier to enter through San Diego without the fence being there, so, by making them find a new entry point, it slowed them down and inhibited their free flow into the country. The more fencing is in place, the more this effect will be compounded. Add patrols and it becomes even more difficult and the flow will be slowed even more. Build the fence.

Marshall adds to my point..Jim, you still have not shown any facts to support a fence not working...show a place where a quality fence was put up and illegal immigration did not go down

blamin said...

Would a fence cut down on illegals? It’s just a matter of simple tactics.

Anytime the enemy can be funneled away from one area towards another, it makes the defenders job easier.

Jim said...

"Jim, you still have not shown any facts to support a fence not working"

Wait a minute. We're supposed to spend a gazillion dollars on a fence because Jim might not be able to prove a negative?

The Game said...

Hurry, hurry, hurry...Jim has shown by his answers the last two days that there is a large supply of cheap weed in the San Fransisco area...might be a nice supply of crack and heroin as well...if you order now, a month supply of X will be included...

No Game,

Jim's and most liberals, drug of choice is denial. It's cheap, and they never run out.

Of course denial always works better with a good mind altering substance.

Jim said...

As a former statesman once said, "Well, there you go again."

Jay and I ask for facts, you can't produce them, so we are in denial or on drugs.

How convenient!

PCD said...

Jim, I provided a working example. You provided nothing. You have less than "Cool Hand Luke".

Jim, you are next to worthless in a debate. You want this country to surrender to Islamofascists, but you can never flat admit when you are wrong and/or lying. That is mentally ill.

Sneaking in with noting to say. How very liberal of you.
