The liberal media does a disservice to the people of this country by having them believe things that are not true.
Number one...only 19% of Americans see the troop surge to be a success. That is flat out insane since we were just told that every single military benchmark has been reached for the troop surge. The liberal media is this countries greatest enemy in the war on terror. They are creating another Vietnam, where we are winning but the American people think we are losing, then the Democrats can come in and make sure we actually do loose.
Number two...Nationally, 24% of adults say the economy is getting better these days. That's compared to 59% who say the economy is getting worse and 13% who say its about the same. Again, that is flat out insane since the unemployment rate is extremely low and the economy has been growing steady for 5 years. While Clinton was president, the same kind of economy (but one not powered by an Internet boom) was touted as the best economy in the history of the world. Why would the media want the American people to be depressed about the war and the economy all the time? Because that is the way they all see it. Bush is President, so the world sucks and we are going to report it that way no matter what.
Last poll...The American people KNOW that the media is biased (except for the liberal sheeple here), but they are still fooled by the media: By a 39% to 20% margin, American adults believe that the three major broadcast networks deliver news with a bias in favor of liberals. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 25% believe that ABC, CBS, and NBC deliver the news without any bias.

Liberal media? What a joke. I believe it was the Washington Post that reported "Country split on withdrawal," and then noting that 70% FAVORED withdrawal. That's "split"? Where's the liberal bias there?
There is no doubt the military has the ability to reach all of its benchmarks. It can meet them until 2050 for whatever good it will do. The key is the Iraq government, Iraq military, and Iraq society to meet their benchmarks. And they're not.
So where's the liberal bias here?
When all you do is show every single bomb that goes off, every single negative spin on the war, then never show anything positive, then that is biased...
When the economy is going great, then you ignore the story or focus on one negative, that is biased.
What liberal media?
I'm glad you've found more excuses for your party's failures.
When people comment on the economy, they are usually commenting on their personal economy.
And whatever you want to say about average wages, unemployment, the stock market, or the size of the GDP, for most people, the personal economy has stagnated or fallen.
Wages for the bottom 90% of Americans have not kept up with inflation--particularly inflation of health care, food, gas, and energy. Most of us are in the stock market, sure, but the vast majority of middle-class stock owners have stocks in a retirment account that can't help them now. The gap between CEO pay and average worker pay (even for CEOs who lose their companies money and market share) is higher than it's been in almost a century. Houses on my block that four years ago when we bought might have been on the market a few weeks and sitting for sale for months (years, in the case of one). Foreclosures are higher than they've been in decades and consumer debt continues to spiral. It's those things people look at when they judge the economy, not the figures touted by the administration.
No, my family isn't hurting. But I see the chunk of money that's available to spend on what we want after food, gas, utilities and so on not getting any bigger. I'm not going to say the economy is great.
It's really a crying shame, especially when you compare it to the surplus Bill Clinton left the Republicans.
Now look at us.
American mortgage holders at the mercy of the Chinese....
Hey, as long as the top 1% is raking it in, right?
And on the surge thing: The rationale behind it was the that US would step up their efforts in order to give the Iraqi government and military a chance to re-group and restore authority. That's why the non-military benchmarks were included in the report in the first place.
So, if the work of the surge isn't producing the results desired, wouldn't that be a failure?
Only twice before over the last century has 5 percent of the national income gone to families in the upper one-one-hundredth of a percent of the income distribution — currently, the almost 15,000 families with incomes of $9.5 million or more a year, according to an analysis of tax returns by the economists Emmanuel Saez at the University of California, Berkeley and Thomas Piketty at the Paris School of Economics.
Such concentration at the very top occurred in 1915 and 1916, as the Gilded Age was ending, and again briefly in the late 1920s, before the stock market crash. Now it is back.
Im not going to engage in class warfare...if others figured out a way to make a lot of money, good.
The economy is great, jobs are being created...its good.
I will agree that the price of food is going up and gas is out of control...
I'm not engaging in class warfare, either. I'm just pointing out that people's personal perception of the economy will widely vary. You ask one of the top one-one hundredths how things are, and they're great. Ask the middle twentieth, and you'll get a completely different answer.
I'm not making any judgment about the way things are--just observing that the way things are probably produces the poll result you have a hard time believing.
Jay,
The problem is way the poll questions are loaded for specific results.
Oh, Jay, soon as you open your mouth about the top 1%, you are engaging in class warfare.
The economy is great, jobs are being created...its good.
Since job growth is lagging behind workforce growth, technically, jobs are being lost.
And since the jobs that are being created pay less than the ones being lost, people are pissed off.
I love how liberals keep coming up with all these little new nitch numbers to try and say the economy is bad...
I would also like to give kudos to Jay for giving a calm, name calling free arguement...that is somewhat correct
What's wrong with class warfare?
Do I smell fear?
Oh, Jay, soon as you open your mouth about the top 1%, you are engaging in class warfare.
The people engaging in class warfare are George Bush and his rich buddies - making millions of the decline of the middle class.
Hell, even the term "class warfare" makes it sound like the rest of us have a fighting chance. It's more like "class predation."
Oh, Jay, soon as you open your mouth about the top 1%, you are engaging in class warfare.
Quoting statistics in now class warfare? What happens if I quote the Bible--Armageddon? Or if I quote Richard Feynman--thermonuclear destruction of the earth? Puh-lease.
Oh, and pcd, every time you open your mouth, I will remind you of the challenge I issued that you're too chicken to take on (scroll to about 9 or 10 comments from the bottom).
Another so-called liberal media joke. Read this article from Reuters.
Now tell me how many times you see the word that actually describes what's going on here, what the Republics are really doing.
And if I may add, here's the "liberal" New York Times.
Jay,
I think if you ask pretty nearly anyone how they themselves are doing, you'll get at least an "OK". But when you ask all those same people instead, "How do you think the economy is doing?" they'll give more negative responses. Sure, prices always rise, and they rise more often than wages. Is that news? I don't think so. The question asked is important and pollsters don't always engage in asking the right questions.
So you are pretty much proving our point. The economy is supposedly going gangbusters and you think most people would say they are doing OK?
That's it? Doing OK?
Yeah, Jim, "OK". How many rich folk do YOU know personally? But no matter how well of a given individual may be, the most likely response to how "He's" doing will be less than jumping up and down whilst shooting off fireworks. Rare is the totally satisfied. Most generally expect better.
However, you've skillfully and deftly missed the point yet again. My point was, that when asked directly about his own situation, a person will respond in better than negative terms, hence "you'll get at least an "OK"." (Note the "at least" qualifier) If you want to make that seem like it supports your side, feel free. You see things as you care to anyhow.
And to further clear up what is probably a major misconception Jimmy, the economy going "gangbusters" does not imply YOU are rolling in it. Nor should it if you do that which doesn't bring about success.
