Missing baby found overnight

Milwaukee police located a missing baby girl from West Allis early today along with her father who was arrested with crack cocaine in his possession, authorities said today.

West Allis Police Capt. Charles Unger said today, "A pretty alert copper recognized the car, stopped it, found the baby inside and said, 'Oh, yea. We got the right car.' Very sharp Milwaukee copper."The girl was reported missing on Tuesday and the Milwaukee officers were aware that the child's father, 34, had taken an Acura with a small child inside.

Milwaukee Officers Jeffrey Pautzke and Michael Krohn, who were assigned to the department's Neighborhood Safety Initiative, stopped a 1994 Acura in the 200 block of W. Locust St. about 3:41 a.m. today.

Officers had stopped several Acuras during the night looking for the vehicle. The father was turned over to West Allis police, who were conducting the investigation into the missing girl. The girl was reunited with her mother, according to police.

I highlighted the sentence that made me write this post. What the police did in this situation SHOULD be called routine police work, or common sense, or doing your job, or being mildly observant.
If you categorize what the police did based on liberals interpretation of police work and homeland security, this would be called profiling.
They were told that a guy in an Acura might have a kidnapped baby inside. Now, wasn't it unfair to those people in Acuras that were pulled over last night who did not have the baby? Were they not mistreated?
I think it was discriminatory car profiling.

The point is that because of liberal objections, police and homeland security officials are unable to do their job in the most effective manner. Once again it is shown how liberalism hurts us all.
The police would have never found this little girl if they were told that you can not profile only Acuras...you have to randomly search cars (like we do at airports).

Wow, you are really stretching it here.

You are reaching and boy am I shocked! Your posts are never emotional....

This would be a case of profiling if little information was known about the subject- just a man in an Acura. The police subsequently pulled over a disproportionate share of African Americans driving Acuras since they shouldn't be driving such nice cars.

On the contrary, this was routine police work and will not be criticized.

Why is it a stretch?
Why do we (or did) randomly search people at the airport?
Why is Al Sharpton and Jesse on the news when the cops pull over a black guy who fits the descrption of a drug dealer spotted near by?

Parklife said...

Because cops think every black person is a drug dealer and people like you think every non-white person is a terrorist. There is a big difference when they have an actual description of the suspects car. And, what a shocking development.. the kidnapper knows the kid.

Jay Bullock said...

Well, no.

"Profiling" is detaining people, with no specific reason, matching a certain set of characterics on the theory that people who match that profile are likely to commit a crime.

It is not detaining people who match characteristics of a suspect who has committed an actual crime.

It would be "profiling" if police pulled over a bunch of Acuras every day from now on, on the theory that people driving Acuras are likely to have kidnapped children with them even if no children have been reported as missing (let alone reported to have been taken by a man driving an Acura).

In short, you're right that what happened in this case was good, routine policework. But it does not even come close to being an example of "profiling."

It depends...like it or not, "profiling" is an essential part of police work, and it ain't going away any time school, because our streets would erupt into anarchy and everyone knows this...

Here, the wisest judgement was made when it was determined that bad stops that didn't have a prayer of making it through court were no longer counted as collars...in a lot of respects, this made oversight internal, instead of just being special-interest groups and troublemakers.

Big-city law enforcement is almost always all about money...

What I personally believe is foolish is, when an alert goes out about a missing child or, really, any other potentially dangerous violent crime, the race or ethnicity of the perp is rarely mentioned...

I cannot emphasize how ill-advised this policy is. You are essentially taking the suspect's most readily-identifiable personal characteristic and making it impossible for passersby to participate in the process of helping to keep our streets and children safe...

I've had everyday citizens come up to me OUT OF THE BLUE when something was going down, and mention this...society knows it but cannot figure out how to effect change.

exactly correct

Yeah, it might be a stretch, but the point is good. Why pull over any other car to look for the kid and the guy who kidnapped it? By the same token, why detain, question and/or search a white, little old lady on an oxygen tank trying to board a plane, when the majority of hijackers look more like young, Middle Eastern men? You can call it what you want. You can distinguish between what profiling is and what happened with the kidnappers, but to solve or prevent a crime, it is good police work to bear in mind common factors. The common factor is solving the kidnapping case was the model of the car used. The common factor in preventing terrorist acts is the ethnicity of the perpetrators of recent terrorist attacks. Parklife might want to ignore that fact regarding who's been committing the most terrorist attacks lately, but I don't expect our law enforcement people to overlook it. In fact, I expect them to take careful notice of the fact. If most had been committed by Americans of Polish/German descent, I would expect to be stopped more than most. Of course I would be loudly condemning those of similar ancestry who are terrorists.

On the other hand, parklife sees that potential for abuse exists, and he understands that such protests will be shitcanned as they are now, so I get his point too...

People like Peter King and Dov Hikind try to jump on the bandwagon for their own special interests, and it's unforgivable to prey on the populace's fear of legitimate interests...

The irony is that the airport screeners often appear far more likely to be perps than the passengers they've stopped...

As I said, things are about to get very interesting here...

Game, this is not a stretch. That idiot (now ex-)police chief out in MD who refused to give the proper information that the snipers they were looking for were black and driving an Impala, not a white van, is just more proof that ron, andy, jay, and hash are so far out to lunch that they really don't get it.

"it might be a stretch, but the point is good."

Only MA could contradict himself in the same sentence.

Anybody ever heard of the Jena 6? To think racism is dead.. thats a stretch.

PCD said...

Park,

I heard of them. 6 cowards who suckerpunched then beat the everliving S**T out of an unconscious kid.

You are scum if you defend those actions.

Because then people will get lazy and start looking for middle easterners, not terrorists. I don't know if you realize this, but there are hundreds of millions of black and asian muslims.

That's the problem with profiling. When they used profiling to stop drug trafficking, all the dealers had to do was start using white women as mules.

The answer is to have well trained intelligent people in security positions. But Bush's union busting ways aren't likely to draw many of them.

Marshall Art said...

Realism,

Of course they'll change tactics, if the tactics of law enforcement and the government intel gathering are constantly exposed, published, broadcast by once responsible sources like the NYT. But in the meantime, while the profiles are accurate, to ignore them and pretend there is no value to them is downright stupid. Do you at least see that?

For Parklife,

""it might be a stretch, but the point is good."

Only MA could contradict himself in the same sentence. "

The comparison is a stretch, the point being made by it was good. Is there any other obvious statements with which you need help understanding? As to the Jena 6, I will not base my opinion on the claims of a Sharpton or Jackson, but await the verdict when all the facts have been presented. Does racism exist? Of course it does. Does it exist in this case? We will see.

IMHO, the black kids forfeited their right to any high ground the nooses in the tree might have bought them, by beating the white kid nearly to death and stepping on the kid's head to hold it down so they could kick him....also, the black kid has priors for violent acts and had no business running around any school anyway.

I guess if I hadn't been reading this blog for so long I wouldn't have been so declaritive. It seems you find an evil liberal under every rock, solely responsible for every detail of anything that seems askew to you. Even when they baby was found and all is well you find a problem and blame it on liberals. It starts to sound nonsensical after a while. They found the baby.

PCD- do you have the ability to write a cogent sentence without a smear in it? I ask because I don't recall it ever happening.

Parklife said...

PCP doesnt know how to read.. let alone think. Nobody is defending violence as a means to an end.. Oohh.. sorry about that. You frightwingers support killing 1.2 million people in Iraq. Anyway, people that respect life dont condone the violence in Jena. To charge those kids as adults is wrong. And to ignore the impact of hanging nooses in a tree is republican.

In the end, PCP and others cant figure out how to see a black person and not treat them like crap.

That's because the baby is only a prop to them.

Neocons don't give a damn about babies, white or black.

They care only for the fetus, but once the baby is born, they willingly drop it on its head.
