Protesting Demeaning Images in Media

Is this just an isolated incident, or are we FINALLY seeing a bit of pride and a sense of what is right and wrong?
It would be great if black kids stopped thinking being a PIMP or a HO was cool, or that being a drug dealer with "fat stacks" was the only way to make money.
I am not keeping my hopes up, but at least it is something positive.

Man, that was riviting...
You really put me in my place...
You have never made a quality point in the history of your blogging career...
You prove here that you are a simple, emotional liberal whose world only exists in fantasy...
I live in the real world dealing with the behavior of minorities every single day...as long as people like you toss out the race card and make excuses and give handouts, nothing will ever change.
You do nothing, you are worthless, you don't matter...

c'mon..park..your ability to add to
the bizarro-world used to be laughable..now your getting too much like snert and gravitch instead of the comedy club's usual
lack of ability to debate...get a nice cup of tea with old hash and try to calm down and imagine your making valid points once again..a shame you don't even know what a racist is..

I get tired of repeating this: The 'Biggest' problem with those kids is a lack of 'role model'! It really hurts me to see young kids listening to music filled with swearing and cursing. The worst part is...their mother doesn't even say a word!!

Your family and surrounding plays a very very important role in deciding your future. Unfortunately, these kids are stuck in a vicious cycle that keeps dragging them down.

It's nothing to do with poverty or anything. It's purely a prevaling culture of 'self-defeat' that they need to break and come out.

Game,

Keep fighting the good fight. Ignore the gaseous emmissions from our lefty friends.

American is on the money. Despite the fact that I disagree with him a lot, here he is on target. This is a good sign.

As to the linked article, I have a few problems:

1st-Like American and Game, good role models are important. But there also needs to be constant counterpoints to this degrading music and those who produce and distribute it. Ministers need to harp on the benefits of higher character, as do teachers and others in the neighborhoods. So holding BET and Viacom accountable is only part of the fight because there are way too many people who actually want this filth. They need to be picketed as well (figuratively speaking).

The real question is whether this will quickly die out as so many such protests do, and can real change in this area occur with the ambiguous secular version of morality and character? I won't hold my breath, but I won't stop opposing such crap openly.

The biggest problem is the cries of "censorship", as if it is a bad thing always. The idea that free expression is without boundaries is very much a part of such crap getting popular. But society has a right to determine for itself just what is acceptable for itself, and as long as political speech is not censored, I don't believe that fighting this crap legislatively, as we do or should be doing with porn, is a breech of what the founders had in mind regarding free speech.

Another problem is that these kids get only ONE viewpoint. 95% of what they hear is the "street" talk, the "hard" attitude. They listen and understand what I am telling them, but school is a far away fantasy land to many of them, it has nothing to do with the "real" world. Everything they hear, everything they know outside of school contradicts what they are taught in school. It is much easier to dismiss what the teacher is saying than to accept that their parents, relatives, friends and neighborhood are a bad influence and are doomed to failure for their actions, beliefs, poor work ethic and attitude.

I believe the founders had a very strong position on free speech and would concur that censorship is almost always a poor proposition.

If a community at large rejects rap music, market forces will lead BET to adjust its programming if it is to remain profitable.

I don't want them to force BET to go off the air with protest...I want the protests to start to wake some poeple up....I think I heard the word fuck about 20 to 40 times IN MY ROOM today...just wanted to add that in there...and if I suspended everyone who swore I would get yelled at...

well,park-it..us and them just might refer to the twenty to forty
"students" who choose their words so poorly in school VERSUS the small minority of students(to clarify just for you)who would like to get the lesson presented in class without disruption...gee..
park...you shouldn't gravitch with
old hash so often...try to stay on task..focus...

Remember...park-it...not referring
to race when responding to your "memorable"post...just talking
about the few kids wanting to be in class....thought I'd better clarify...just for YOU...

Scorp-Peon... or is that "pee on"? I'll let you pick.

I'm referring to the topic. You know the post. Let me know when you want to come back to that.

try to stay on task..focus... like a laser beam.

park-it..focus seems to be something that you must have forgot
to look into before attempting to debate these RIGHT ON posts...you must need to snert and gravitch a bit more as that is what the comedy club seems to be able to focus on...focus...maybe a cup of tea with old hash could lift the fog from your"debate."
