National Journal rates Obama the single "most liberal" member of the Senate last year, spotlighting some policy differences, as well writing GOP attack ad if he's the nominee, but perhaps also a helpful note in consolidating support on the left now.
There are some details of their ratings here (.pdf), which include a couple of interesting differences.
First of all, why is Obama missing so many votes?
Second, this should be a red flag for anyone who isn't a hard-core liberal to think very hard about who you want to be President. While you might think it is "cool" to vote for the first black President, do you think it is cool to:
1. Raise your taxes
2. Give drivers licenses, free school, free health care and billions in social services to illegal immigrants
3. Instantly give comfort to our enemies by running away in Iraq.
4. Supreme Court justices who will make up laws and rights for people never intended in the constitution.
5. Take more and more money out of people who earn money and give it to people who do nothing
Add to the list for the most liberal Senator in the United States of America...he makes Hillary look like Ronald Reagan.

stop whining about your tax responsibilities, the ONLY thing the government expects of you
as far as your five points, which ones of them do you seriously believe romney will not capitulate on, for benefit of political expediency?
romney is not an ultraconservative, never was, and never will be
"OH NO" Obama seems to say the least or basically says nothing of substance most every time he talks.
What are the real accomplishments that would make him be considered for the office of president???
hmmmm, let me think. i know...he's not bush.
Um ...
Taking a closer look at this year's results, Obama and Joe Biden were both considered more liberal than Russ Feingold and Bernie Sanders. This, alone, should make one wonder about the reliability of the rankings.
Better yet, National Journal's press release on the rankings noted the criteria was based on 99 key roll-call votes last year: "Obama voted the liberal position on 65 of the 66 votes in which he participated, while Clinton voted the liberal position on 77 of 82 votes." So, Clinton voted for the liberal position 77 times, Obama voted for it 65 times, which makes Obama the chamber's single most liberal member. Got it.
so you are falling for Obama's chicken-shit approach?
He doesn't vote so he can try to hide how liberal he is...
Jay's logic: If you don't vote, your not a liberal.
No, what I'm saying is, if you're out campaigning and only come back for the most important votes, you're going to be giving a skewed sample.
Fact is, National Journal tried to say in 2004 that Kerry was the most liberal Senator, which was laughable. Obama is indeed to the left of Kerry--not to mention Clinton--but to the left of Feingold? Kennedy? Sanders? Feinstein? Come on.
First of all being very liberal is a plus for many, including me. Second of all there has been no democrat that was the democratic nominee that the republicans haven't labeled as the most liberal. It's bullshit, take it with a grain of salt.
You list of horrible things that will happen if we elect a liberal could never compare to the real life horror that is the last 25(Especially last 7) years of conservative rule.
"so you are falling for Obama's chicken-shit approach?"
i'm not, but i don't believe he is particularly outstanding or impressive in the first place
i believe he's done a very good job of conveying the idea that he is for "change", and a very poor job at explaining WHAT changes he has in mind, and how he intends to go about it
i also believe sizable numbers of blacks are voting monolithically for him, based on his skin color, and i believe many white liberals are, out of white guilt and a misguided sense of "inspiration" that comes from unmet spiritual needs, are doing the same
none of which render him necessarily qualified for the presidency, but this fact is being lost in the shuffle, no pun intended
Jay, is Obama to the left of Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Castro, Chavez?
nice job making your point...and I tend to agree with your assessment
Jay, is Obama to the left of Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Castro, Chavez?
No.
