Here is another thing to add to the list of things that is harder to do than vote.
I went to Apple Holler this weekend...and they rent little, wood red wagons.
You have to give you drivers license to rent one.
So getting a child wagon to use in an apple orchard is harder to do than
cheat (vote) for the President of the United States...

Personally I find voter I.D. to be one of those issues for which I choose not to get my undies in a bunch. Don't get me wrong, I think voting should be as easy as possible, and love the same day registration model. However, even as limited as I believe voter fraud to be, I.D. would add an element of legitimacy.
What I would REALLY like to see is for both sides to come clean: for the Rs to step forward and say, "yes, the reason this is important to us is that the Ds would take a hit" and the Ds should admit it scares the snot out of them that lower turnout among the groups most affected might cost them a seat here and/or there.
But where the D's might make it up is putting this issue forward as a bargaining chip to get something more important to them. Perhaps by noting that creating hoops for this right might be equivalent to creating hoops for another...say gun ownership.
Trade voter I.D. for strict gun registration reform? Seems like a fair tradeoff to me.

Very good points by Spice. It's clear that both parties have sometihng to hide. I don't understand why is it so hard to follow the rules and be transparent? Well, as I said, unless you have something to hide...
I think you have something to hide if you can't prove who you are when you vote.
How can you function as a human being without an ID?
If Dem's are worried their voter base is affected by a voter ID law, figure out why the people who want to vote for you are so irresponsible and obviously not productive members of society.
Do you have any idea how many criminals are out there making fake IDs? These guys make a killing outside gun shows. And even a crappy fake ID would be good enough to fool those poll workers who are older than McCain, fer chrissakes. Whats next? Checking IDs before being allowed into church?

I love it how liberals are against the ID because it creates too many obstacles to vote, whereas they have no problem when Doylie creates those obstacles with higher ID and license fees.
It certainly seems to me there are more worthwhile things to use an ID for than to vote. Geeze, you'd think groups like ACORN would be as concerned about citizens having a checking account, going to a museum, writing a check, picking a child up at school or the countless other activities one needs an ID for.
A progressive argument is the voter without an ID is at a greater risk to be disenfranchised than one with one. If your right to vote is questioned, it ends upon a presentation of an ID, whereas you get a provisional ballot if you don't have one.
I don't think an ID will do anything the conservatives argue it will. It is a false certainty. Those with working VISA's still can get ID's and drivers licenses. What I do think is its silly to argue against an ID when its essential for economic and cultural participation in our society.
All "on no" Obama voters should receive little red wagons as their thank you..they can than pull it over to the bread line or soup kitchen...

Yes, you can't discriminate along racial lines. That is very different than a right to vote.
What are you trying to say its OK to deny access in regards to education, buying red wagons, visiting cultural events on the casis of race, but not the right to vote.
I would argue the lack of access to an ID at the polls may in facts violate the 15th. The concern should be large numbers of citizens do not have an ID which greatly limits their access for economic, cultural, and political participation.
It seems too many liberals only care about their perceived vote loss with an ID requirement, not that groups of citizens do not have access to ID's.
It seems to me if this issue really concerns you, you'd be taking Doyle to task for making getting an ID so difficult. It could cost someone over $100 to get an ID. It seems to me something so essential for our political, cultural, and economic lives ought to be more easily available.

liberals are not interested in actually making things better for anyone or solving anything, just punishing wealth and successful and giving it to people who are "entitled" to it
