Just 41% of voters nationwide now favor the health care reform proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats.

Hum...it seems the more Obama talks the less people like what he says...
You have to admit, he did the huge blitz in the last week, and LESS people like what he has to say on health care.

Yes, if only they would insist on the public option, the support would be at 65% (62.9% for doctors)

You are sick Unrealism. The PUBLIC SNOOKER is what is poison to this bill.

Still that high...imagine that...

I'd say that the bliz came too late. If you look back at policy debates, the GOP has a much better PR machine that effectively frames the debate. The administration has been behind the curve on the bailout, the assistance to the auto industry, and the health care debate. It's high time Gibbs is sent packing.

Andy, a little clue for you. LIES never win an argument based on reality and facts. All the democrats have are lies.

Andy said...

PCD, I could point you to GOP lies about healthcare. However, you're not interested in debate.

Leave the discussion to us adults.

Andy,

Please, point "me" to GOP lies about healthcare, I'd be happy to debate.

No, really, I'm interested. Seems how Joe Wilson was vindicated. Seems how the CBO refused to lend credence to fantasy. Tell me, what “lies” are the GOP are putting forth?

Andy,

I think you need to go back and read your link, read it closely.

For instance, read the last paragraph under the "Summary" heading. Read it closely and tell me what you think.

Let's see:

"It makes a downright false claim that ordinary wheelchairs would be among "medical supplies" subject to a proposed tax on manufacturers and importers."

"It features a proposed tax on medical laboratory services that has already been dropped."

"The alleged tax on "charities" is actually a proposed limit on federal income tax deductions for charitable gifts by individual taxpayers in the highest brackets, not a tax levied directly on the charities themselves."

"The ad claims "your health insurance costs will skyrocket," but independent experts disagree. The head of the Congressional Budget Office says the biggest tax proposed in the Senate Finance Committee plan, for example, would reduce health care spending, because it cuts a tax incentive that encourages spending."

All from the summary.

Andy,

Let’s look at the last paragraph for now.

"The ad claims "your health insurance costs will skyrocket," but independent experts disagree. The head of the Congressional Budget Office says the biggest tax proposed in the Senate Finance Committee plan, for example, would reduce health care spending, because it cuts a tax incentive that encourages spending."

Let me break this down for you. A) Health insurance would become a taxable benefit. B) Employees will have less money in their pockets because of the tax. C) The CBO predicts employees will “spend” less on health care (maybe because THEY HAVE LESS MONEY to spend).

Let me break it down a little further. We are going to pay more for current benefits, causing us to use the resources less.

And even further. We are going to pay more and receive less.

Keep it up Andy, you’re helping the GOP.

Let’s look at this part of the FactCheck post.

Their lead in sentence: ”An RNC Web ad claims Democrats would tax ordinary wheelchairs. Not true.” Nit-picking, pure and simple.

Ya see, ordinary wheelchairs wouldn’t be taxed, just the more expensive motorized wheelchairs, that many disabled must have, because they can’t operate a manual wheelchair (my aunt included).

Read further into the post and you learn the GOP makes the claim there’d be a tax on medical supplies. The good folks at FactCheck point out that only approx. one-half of all medical supplies would be taxed.

We can review each and every item if you like, but this sentence from FactCheck sums it up quite well: ”It’s perfectly true, as the ad says, that "hundreds of billions" in taxes are being proposed – spread over 10 years. But the ad exaggerates and misleads in a number of ways”

Bottom line, the GOP is accurate in its overall points about the cost of this abomination. You guys can only nit-pick minor details.

We can go through each item in the FactCheck post if you wish, but I think if you try really, really, hard, you’ll catch my drift.

And how is this different than what is happening now? All of the deceitful half-truths and propaganda the GOP is using describe the current system better than the solutions being proposed.

They are all happening now.

Death panels - check
Limited choice of doctors - check
Bureaucrats interfering with doctor/patient treatment decisions - check
Nothing being done to stem healthcare costs - check

In addition to all of the negative consequences of the status quo that you claim would exist under reform proposals, you also need to add the millions of uninsured people who must forego treatments, the tens of thousands of people forced into bankruptcy because of medical bills, the thousands of people who pay for insurance for years, only to be dumped for bs reasons when the do get sick and the tens of thousands of people every year who DIE from preventable causes because they don't have insurance.

But you got yours, so fuck everybody else, right, Blamin? 'Don't change the system, somma those E-leegals might get them a doctor'

The sheer idiocy of tens of thousands of working-class people protesting their government, DEMANDING that they not be provided health insurance speaks volumes about the skill of the GOP at disseminating propaganda.

there are 300 million people in this country...and even though you cant prove anything you just said at the end of your post with any credible information, you want to give worse coverage to 285 million because about 15 million cant get coverage..and yes, that is what it is when you take out people that are in between jobs and do not have insurrance for a little while or those who choose not to have any.
Where are these tens of thousands who die BECAUSE they do not have insurrance...because guess what, people with teh best health care die too...it happens..so whatever stat you come up with better take that into account.

the liberal way is to lower the majority down to the minority level so everything is fair...well, thats not fair for almost everyone, and people are tired of their quality of life going down because of Democrats.

Jim said...

Wrong. Nobody is suggesting that anybody gets worse coverage to cover anybody else. And YOU can't prove that they would.

People who are in between jobs get sick and get hurt, too.

"the liberal way is to lower the majority down to the minority level so everything is fair"

Not true and YOU can't prove that it is. Nobody is suggesting that people who have insurance have any less coverage than before. In fact, they will have better coverage because they can't be denied coverage.

Andy said...

Blamin,

You do not understand health care, The tax would apply to cadillac health plans, expensive health plans which experts cite as a key factor in the cost curve. These plans have no deductibles and small, if any, copays. Thus, individuals are inclined to have tests and procedures they don't need. If you tax these plans, you alter behavior. These plans aren't offered or consumers curb wasteful spending.

The Game said...

Jim, punishing those who have the best and getting them closer to those who have less IS liberalism.
Why do you tax the rich so high, and for you I bet you would tax them higher.
There is no proof that any social program has helped in the least. The poverty level keeps going up, so all you are doing is bringing those who have down to the level of those who do not have.
Of course, we are seeing right now how punishing the successful hurts everyone with our terrible economy that keeps getting worse.

And I have shown story after story and study after study that shows what socialized medicine means for its people.
Right now there is already a shortage of doctors, that will continue, making health care worse.
